English Premier League Club-by-Club Guide to Transfer Deadline Day Deals

Thomas AtzenhofferAug 31, 2011

The summer transfer window is officially over. This year proved to have one of the most exciting "finally days" in a long time as all the teams in the English Premier League were in the midst of chasing the sunset on new additions.

Some teams added major value to their club as they attempt to make up for injuries and horrid form to start the season. One club had a reunion with an old flame, while others hope to have found lasting new relationships.

Without a doubt the signings from the final day of the window are set to have great affect on the clubs that they have joined, and the balance of power in the middle of the table will be fluctuating quite a bit as some of the key signings could bring teams over their hump and start helping to get results.

As the month and window come to a close, let's take a look at all 20 of the English Premier League teams and break down their deadline day deals and transfers for the last transfer window of 2011.

Fulham

1 of 21

The Cottagers and Martin Jol were busy on the last day of August as they finalized their free transfer of Juventus defender Zdenek Grygera on a one-year deal. He joins on a free transfer from Turin and should be a great addition to the Fulham back line.

Their last minute deal was a £10.6 million move for 25-year-old Costa Rican striker Bryan Ruiz from Dutch Eredivisie side FC Twente. His scoring exploits over two seasons with FC Twente amount to 36 goals in 61 league appearances.

That kind of threat up front is a must have for the club as they have struggled to get off the mark in the League so far this year.

Everton

2 of 21

More will be said about Everton's losses on the final day later. However, they did at least muster the ability to complete two deals at the death on deadline day.

Royston Drenthe and Denis Stracqualurs became David Moyes' only signings in the final month of the window.

Drenthe comes on loan from Real Madrid and the Dutchman is a prolific talent upfront after having had an excellent loan spell at Spanish-side Hercules last season.

Denis Stracqualurs joins from Tigres and is the first Argentine to sign for Everton as he also joins on a one-year deal. Last season he scored 21 goals in 38 league appearances for the Tigres.

Queens Park Rangers

3 of 21

Queens Park Rangers wrapped up a busy final five days by completing the signings of both Shaun Wright-Phillips, Tommaso Trani, Anton Ferdinand and Armand Traore on the last day after signing Joey Barton and Luke Young at the end of last weekend.

Ferdinand joins on a £40,000 a week deal after a £4 million move from Sunderland.

Joey Barton is in on a four-year deal having moved from Newcastle despite having had interest from other clubs, and will be the kind of midfield boss they need alongside Adel Taarabt.

Shaun Wright-Phillips brings the attacking side play and speed that the club will need in order to have a chance to compete for a mid-table place.

Former Arsenal defender Armand Traore needed a chance and his three-year deal as Loftus Road could be the one that brings him back to life.

Luke Young will be looking to make his mark and help solidify the Rangers' defense alongside both Ferdinand and Traore who all will most likely take up first-team places.

Finally AC Milan youth prodigy Tommaso Trani has joined on a rarely seen two-year loan deal as he seeks time to develop for a shot at the Milan first team.

Wolverhampton Wanderers

Mic McCarthy and his camp at the Molineux stadium were completely quiet on transfer day as the only thing happening was David Davis making a loan move to Inverness Caledonian Thistle.

The Wolves might be regretting not adding at least one player or two come November as the season is a little more gone.

Blackburn Rovers

5 of 21

Rovers sealed a £6 million deal for Birmingham defender Scott Dann as he had been rumored to be making the switch since Monday.

With Chris Samba also staying till at least January, Rovers are in a much better position at the back.

Swansea City

6 of 21

The Swans revamped their entire back line with a trio of signings on the last day of the season. Fede Bessone joins from Leeds United, while former Lens defender Darnel Situ also comes to the club.

Fulham also agreed to sign away their fringe Algerian defender Rafik Halliche as he has only made two appearances for the club in the last few seasons.

Norwich City

7 of 21

Cody McDonald left Norwich for a loan move to Colchester United and was the only person heading in or out of the Canaries camp on the last day.

Their defeat at the hands of Chelsea was humbling to the club, but until the 11 minutes of stoppage time it was truly anyone's game even when Norwich were on 10 men thanks to John Ruddy being sent off.

Wigan Athletic

8 of 21

Wigan Athletic made two shrew final-day deals with Shaun Maloney joining from Scottish giants Celtic and Patrick Van Aanholt joining on loan from Chelsea.

Maloney will look to fill the playmaking boots of Charles N'Zogbia as he is looking to forward his career in England.

Van Aanholt will hope to earn time at the back as the young Chelsea starlet will be looking to help solidify the Latics' back line as they look to be in a tough relegation battle come the later part of the second half of the 2011-12 season.

Aston Villa

9 of 21

Aston Villa were one of several teams to make a major raid on Tottenham Hotspur today as they signed full back Allan Hutton to a five-year deal from White Hart Lane.

Along with Hutton they inked a loan deal for Jermaine Jenas to increase their midfield fluidity and toughness.

Hutton will be used to fill the void left by a QPR departed Luke Young.

Bolton Wanderers

10 of 21

Owen Coyle finally sealed the transfer of Liverpool youngster David N'Gog as well as completing a loan deal with Chelsea for midfielder Gael Kakuta.

N'Gog moved for a fee of £4 million after having made 94 appearances scoring 19 goals for the Merseyside club.

Kakuta will hope to emulate the loan performance of Daniel Sturridge last season, as Owen Coyle looks to continue to turn loan moves into gold.

West Bromwich Albion

11 of 21

Roy Hodgson was unable to make any last minute signings and lost three players on deadline day.

James Hurst will be leaving to join Blackpool on loan while the fee is undisclosed for Pablo Ibañez as he moves to Birmingham city permanently.

New UEFA Champions League side Trabzonspor of Turkey have signed Marek Cech from the Baggies on the last day as well.

Stoke City

12 of 21

Tony Pulis added lots of firepower on the final day as he was finally able to complete several long running deals on the final day.

Peter Crouch and Wilson Palacios both come over from Tottenham in a deal worth £22 million. Pulis also captured Birmingham City striker Cameron Jerome as all three players will be excited to get their European campaign underway at the Britannia.

Crouch signed a four-year deal worth £10 million and possibly as much as £12 million to the Spurs based on certain parameters while Palacios made up the rest.

Sunderland

13 of 21

Steve Bruce added Arsenal want away striker Nicklas Bendtner on loan as his final move of the chess piece that is deadline day.

The Dane is a very experienced Premier League striker, and has been sensational at times for Arsenal.

However, a move may be just what he needs to prove to all the Gunners fans that he has what it takes at a club of that calibre.

Newcastle United

14 of 21

Newcastle United finished the last of any details on their transfer of Inter Milan defender Davide Santon.

The young player is one of the most highly rated young center backs in Europe and Alan Pardew will be keen to get him into the action as his new look Magpies could be an excellent challenge to all the mid-table clubs.

Tottenham

15 of 21

Harry Redknapp's club sit dead last in the EPL at the moment on a -7 goal differential.

Despite that fact he allowed Stoke City to sign both Peter Crouch and Wilson Palacios, while Allan Hutton and Jermaine Jenas both left for Aston Villa.

The only addition for the club was West Ham United midfielder Scott Parker. The England International will be an excellent new Partner to Luka Modric who was held onto tightly by Redknapp and Daniel Levy despite Chelsea making multiple last-ditch offers.

Chelsea

16 of 21

Liverpool fans will rue the departure of Raul Meireles to Chelsea as he looked to be a great weapon for the Reds.

However, the call of former FC Porto boss Andre Villas-Boas was too much to resist as the Blues also have Champions League action on offer as well and will be fighting for the title all season long.

Arsenal

17 of 21

Arsene Wenger hopes that three signings on the last day of the Transfer window will allow him to at least limp back to the starting line.

Former Liverpool and Chelsea attacking midfielder Yossi Benayoun has joined on a one-year deal from Stamford Bridge as Raul Meireles's signing saw him become surplus even more than before.

Per Mertesacker has joined the club after completing a £7.9 million switch and will be looked on as a means to plug the gaping hole in the center of the Gunners defense.

Everton lost the battle to keep a hold of Mikel Arteta as the Spaniard has moved to London to take up the vacated spot of Cesc Fabregas at the Emirates.

Wenger should be praised for his moves as for once he made good decisions to sign proven veterans rather than blow tons of money on unproven youthful talent that is not ready to handle the physical or psychological demands of the EPL.

Manchester City

18 of 21

Roberto Mancini already completed the bulk of his dealings earlier in the summer but has finalized one more with the last minute signing of Owen Hargreaves.

The form Manchester United midfielder joins on a one-year deal and could be either one of the best or worst signings of the summer. When he is healthy he is world class, but the last time he was truly a green light to go was in 2007-08.

Manchester United

19 of 21

As many believed would be the case Sir Alex Ferguson and Manchester United abstained from any more signings this summer.

With his club at the top of the table after several excellent performances to start the season, he has high hopes of retaining his EPL title and making his club's tally tick up to 20 English domestic championships.

Liverpool

20 of 21

Liverpool have reunited with former one-year Red Craig Bellamy. The player scored nine goals in 41 appearances for Rafael Benitez in the 2006-07 season on Merseyside before being sold on.

Bellamy will be replacing the vacated spot of both Raul Meireles as the playmaker moves to Chelsea, and also that of Joe Cole who is off to Lille in France.

The Welshman's attacking attitude and determined drive in a match is what Dalglish is more than certainly after. Bellamy will be fighting for first-team action with Andy Carroll and Dirk Kuyt as Luis Suarez is the only definite lock on the front line for the Reds at the moment.

Conclusions

21 of 21

It was truly a ventilating final day in the transfer market as there were major moves happening left and right. For the first time a long time it is believed that almost every signing could have huge impact on their new clubs' final results this season.

Arsene Wenger has to be commended for signing proven EPL talent instead of breaking the bank on unproven youngsters anymore this summer. I honestly cannot think of the last time he signed players over 23 years old, and it is a welcomed surprise even for a Liverpool fan.

I think this is shaping up to be one of the most competitive seasons that the EPL has witnessed in quite some time.
