Transfer Deadline Rumours: 5 Possible Destinations for Wesley Sneijder
Wesley Sneijder looked like he could become a hot commodity this summer when Manchester United started to chase his signature.
For several weeks he was at the top of their want list behind the already wrapped-up deals for Ashley Young, Phil Jones and David de Gea.
Then the deal suddenly seemed to just wade away as Sir Alex Ferguson began to distance the club more and more from the speculation over the Dutchman.
Mainly I believe that Ferguson has been, and rightfully so after this opening month, very happy with his youthful contingent in the center of midfield.
He still has many veterans to choose from with Ryan Giggs, Michael Carrick and Darren Fletcher all still on the roster.
Now it is still up for grabs whether the Inter Milan playmaker will move before Wednesday or stay put.
Real Madrid
1 of 6Although Wesley Sneijder had a falling-out with Real Madrid, the biggest part of a possible return is his former Inter Milan boss Jose Mourinho.
Sneijder was a leading reason why Mourinho was able to lead Inter to a Serie A Scudetto, Coppa Italia victory and Champions League trophy in the same season.
There is always a possibility, even if slim, that the Special One could come calling with Kaka and several of his other current midfielders looking to be on their way out of Madrid.
Manchester United
2 of 6Manchester United were perhaps the most interested in the Dutch playmaker during the summer. However, the purse strings look to have been tightened at Old Trafford at least until January, thanks to the Glazer family's other football team, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and the NFL's latest collective bargaining agreement.
That being said, Sir Alex Ferguson also looks to be satisfied with the performances of his two young central midfielders Tom Cleverly and Anderson to the point where he most likely will be holding onto his funds.
Chelsea
3 of 6Chelsea have signed Juan Mata, but they still need a new central midfield creative force to combine with Frank Lampard.
Deals for Luka Modric look to be on the rocks with any chance of the Croatian moving over from Tottenham still slim.
Sneijder is a realistic option and would cost about the same as their last offer for Modric.
Arsenal
4 of 6Arsenal are in a load of trouble. They have not had a start this poor since 2006-07 when they only took one point from their first three games.
The club still finished in fourth place that season, but this is not the same Arsenal team.
Wenger needs a strong midfield presence now, and Sneijder is a prime example of what he needs to spend the Cesc Fabregas money on.
Inter Milan
5 of 6With only a few days remaining, I do not see the Dutchman leaving Milan—even with a players' strike going on throughout the Serie A and Italian football.
He is too integral a part of Inter's offense to lose after the departure of Samuel Eto'o to Russia.
Conclusion
6 of 6Welsey Sneijder will be the hinge of the Inter Milan attack once again this season and I do not see Massimo Moratti letting him leave unless it is truly an offer too good to be true.
