With the injuries to Theo Walcott and Robin Van Persie, the pressure will increase on our skipper Cesc Fabregas, and the next few games will tell us his mind set.
It is no secret that Cesc wanted to move to Barcelona but people close to the club have assured me that he is a professional and will give 100% for Arsenal. The few times I have met him, he has always looked focus and determined. Not moving to Barcelona will be a blow to him but I believe he is professional enough to give 100% for Arsenal football club.
Arsene Wenger is one of the best managers in the world in dealing with top players; he did it with Patrick Vieira, Thierry Henry and will have judged the situation with Cesc Fabregas. Cesc is from Barcelona and this week Thomas Vermaelen has said he has the ‘DNA’ and whether we want to believe it or not, that is true. Perhaps Thomas should not have said it in public but no one can disagree with it. Cesc is from Barcelona and has family are in Barcelona so therefore, it is only natural to want to go back there.
However, Cesc is still here after the window closed and is staying. I was present at Members day and saw clearly the smile on his face when bantering with his fellow team mates and it was not a sign of a man who did not want to be there.
People have asked me what my opinions are on Cesc because many feel he does not look like himself in recent games. I feel that despite not playing much in the World Cup, it did take a lot of him. His holiday was short and fitness levels were low. Cesc is still getting back to full fitness; even Robin Van Persie has not looked at his sharpest either so Cesc just needs games. He made appearances in the game at Ewood Park and for Spain so his fitness will be higher then before the international break. Once Cesc is at his sharpest, I fully expect his performances to be like last year.
With Cesc, you not only get passion and determination but you get a player who can score goals as well as assist them. He has great vision and the ability to run a game. When Cesc has not been in the team, the spark sometimes is lost, like the game at White Hart Lane last season when Arsenal had the ball virtually the entire game but just looked to run out of ideas. With Cesc in the team, you always feel you have a good chance to win any game. .
As supporters of the club, we have to do what is best for our club and what is more likely to increase the chances of winning something this season. Backing Almunia was one (my last blog) but backing our skipper is another. We need him if we are to win anything this season so lets hope he stays fit and I am sure the hunger will return if its not there already.
Cesc has recently opened up a twitter account and this was a brave move in my opinion. He could have easily avoided twitter because of the risk of any fans giving him abuse. Cesc seems like an honest man who was just in a position this summer which was difficult but he is still here and that is all the matters. Yes, he may go next year, but this year is our primary concern. Let’s get behind our captain and our team and go out and win the next 2 home games.
Come on you Arsenal!
