Leicester City won 3-0 away at Newcastle United to top the Premier League table on Saturday, thanks to defeats for Manchester City and Arsenal.

City were handily beaten 4-1 by Liverpool at the Etihad Stadium, while Arsenal lost 2-1 to West Bromwich Albion, and the pair are also behind Manchester United after they scraped past Watford 2-1 at Vicarage Road.

Everton put Aston Villa to the sword, and Chelsea deservedly beat Norwich City—albeit only 1-0.

Saturday Roundup

Liverpool were ahead after just seven minutes when Eliaquim Mangala turned in Roberto Firmino's cross for an own goal. Coutinho finished a lovely move by Firmino after 22 minutes, and the former assisted the latter for 3-0 shortly after.

Sergio Aguero pulled one back on the stroke of half-time with a lovely curling effort, but Martin Skrtel lashed in a vicious effort late on to seal all three points for the dominant Reds.

Things looked to be going well for Arsenal when Olivier Giroud's header put them ahead at the Hawthorns, once again thanks to an exquisite ball from Mesut Ozil.

Squawka Football highlighted the German's incredible form:

The Baggies quickly turned the game on its head, though, as James Morrison equalised before Mikel Arteta's own goal gave them the half-time lead.

Arsenal sought to pull level in the second half and were handed a golden opportunity from the penalty spot after Chris Brunt was penalised for pulling Alexis Sanchez's shirt, but Santi Cazorla missed the goal in stunning fashion.

Football writer Iain Macintosh captured the moment:

West Brom continued to defend with spirit and guile as they held on for a memorable win.

At St James' Park, Jamie Vardy made history when he put the Foxes ahead shortly before half-time with a low strike after cutting in from the left.

Squawka Football revealed the significance of his goal:

Leicester doubled their lead through Leonardo Ulloa, and Shinji Okazaki sealed the win late on.

Vardy will now get the opportunity to break Ruud van Nistelrooy's record, and fittingly, he will have to do so against the Dutchman's former club Manchester United, who picked up three points against Watford.

With Wayne Rooney and Anthony Martial absent, the pressure was on Memphis Depay to deliver up front, and the Netherlands international did so with aplomb, volleying home United's opener from Ander Herrera's cross.

Football writer Liam Canning believes it could be a big goal for the forward:

The Hornets fought back well and pulled level with three minutes of normal time remaining through a Troy Deeney penalty after Marcos Rojo felled Odion Ighalo in the area, but in a cruel twist of fate, Deeney bundled in a last-minute own goal to hand United the victory.

Diego Costa scored the only goal of the game at Stamford Bridge as Chelsea won their first Premier League game in over a month.

The likes of Eden Hazard, Cesc Fabregas and Nemanja Matic performed well as the Blues begin again on the long road to recovery, though youngsters Kenedy and Kurt Zouma were the ones to draw the plaudits from the Telegraph's Paul Hayward:

A thrilling first half at the Liberty Stadium saw Bournemouth take a two-goal lead through Josh King and Dan Gosling, but the Swans were level by half-time thanks to an Andre Ayew backheel and a Jonjo Shelvey penalty.

The Cherries put in a strong showing in the second half, but like their defeat to Newcastle before the international break, they could not find a way through.

Stoke City beat Southampton 1-0 thanks to an early goal from Bojan Krkic. The Potters have now lost just once in the league since September.

Ross Barkley opened the scoring for Everton against Aston Villa at Goodison Park, tapping in after a lovely move from the Toffees involving Romelu Lukaku, James McCarthy and Gerard Deulofeu.

Lukaku bagged their second and his 50th Premier League goal shortly before the half-hour mark, and Barkley had a first-half brace when he tucked in after a scramble in the middle of the area. Belgium international Lukaku rounded out the scoring in the second-half to claim a brace of his own.

The match will serve as a timely reminder to new Villa boss Remi Garde as to just how difficult a job he has on his hands to turn things around.

Watford await the Midlands outfit in Week 14, and the Hornets will have little reason to fear them on Saturday's evidence after they allowed Everton to ride roughshod over their defence.
