Manchester United vs. Arsenal: Louis Van Gaal, Arsene Wenger Post-Match Reaction
Louis van Gaal addressed the ongoing transfer rumours regarding David De Gea after Manchester United's 1-1 draw against Arsenal on Sunday, acknowledging his star goalkeeper would likely prefer a move to Real Madrid over an extended stay at Old Trafford.
He warned his stopper a transfer would not be easy to come by, however, as shared by ESPNFC's Alex Shaw:

He later elaborated on the transfer, making it clear he wants De Gea to stay. But the choice will be up to the player, per the Guardian's Daniel Taylor (h/t Bleacher Report UK):
United and Arsenal shared the spoils on Sunday in an evenly matched game that saw the Red Devils dominate the first half and the Gunners claw their way back in the second.
Ander Herrera gave the Mancunians a lead that put the squad in front of Arsenal in the standings, but Tyler Blackett's second-half own goal tied things up again. Football365's Daniel Storey could only draw one conclusion after the match:
Van Gaal had a special message for Manchester United fans after the Red Devils played out a 1-1 draw with Arsenal in their final home match of the season, thanking the Old Trafford faithful before drawing plenty of laughs by saying “bye” almost immediately.
Manchester Evening News' Samuel Luckhurst noted the unusual speech, which drew plenty of hilarity on social media:
The club shared the entire speech via Twitter:
JOE's Nooruddean Choudry couldn't help but laugh at the way the Dutch manager delivered his message:
As reported by the Independent's Chris Wheatley, Arsene Wenger believed Arsenal deserved to win the match based on their play in the second half:
The first half was all United, however, and Ashley Young's opinion was the exact opposite of the Arsenal manager, per United's official Twitter account:
De Gea has been linked with a move to Real Madrid all season, as reported by Marca (h/t Daily Mirror's Liam Prenderville), and fans feared the goalkeeper may have been appearing in his final ever match at Old Trafford as a member of the squad.
He didn't even last the full 90 minutes, suffering an injury during the second half. Per ESPN FC's Ben Dinnery, Van Gaal believes the Spain international won't be playing for the club again this season:
Wenger was asked on the prospect of finishing the season in third place, but warned journalists that mission had not yet been accomplished:
He also took a look ahead at next season and the progression the squad has made throughout the 2014-15 campaign:
Van Gaal did the same, expressing his satisfaction with achieving a top-four finish but looking ahead at silverware next season:
Both teams will be competing in the UEFA Champions League next season, and the final matchday will decide which club will go directly into the group stages and who will be forced to go through the play-offs.
Both the Gunners and Red Devils had up-and-down seasons which ultimately ended in success, and the two giants of English football will have their eyes on a title challenge next season.
Whether De Gea will be a part of any push for the title is a massive question mark, however, and judging by Van Gaal's post-match comments, fans should start preparing for life without the Spanish star.
