Arsenal vs. Newcastle: Arsene Wenger and Alan Pardew Post-Match Reaction

Gianni VerschuerenDec 13, 2014

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger emphasised the fans' happiness remains his primary concern after his club's 4-1 win over Newcastle United on Sunday, just days after being heckled by supporters after the loss against Stoke City, per ESPN FC.

As shared by Squawka Football, the Gunners boss told reporters he was very glad with the win on Sunday, primarily because it means the fans will go home happy:

He later reiterated the same idea, via the Associated Press' Rob Harris:

Olivier Giroud and Santi Cazorla both bagged a brace, as the Gunners were in full control for 90 minutes against the Magpies. Ayoze Perez gave the visitors a consolation goal.

Arsenal fans were literally singing Wenger's praise as the final whistle approached, leading to numerous ironic messages on social media. Former England international Gary Lineker didn't have to name last week's events in Stoke for people to know what he meant:

On the match itself, the Frenchman was visibly pleased with his squad's effort, and rightfully so. As he told the club's official Twitter feed, all 11 men on the pitch put together an excellent performance:

When asked about Monday's Champions League draw, he joked with reporters, alluding to the bad luck the Gunners have had with the draw in recent years:

He also confirmed Arsenal will be actively looking for defensive reinforcements in the January transfer window, as Aaron Ramsey and Laurent Koscielny will likely not be returning before 2015, via Arsenal blogger Sam:

Newcastle manager Alan Pardew had no problems acknowledging his side were soundly beaten on Saturday, via Bleacher Report UK's James McNicholas:

He was not in the mood for cheeky questions or games, however, as one unlucky reporter soon found out, per Harris:

Wenger appears to live with the Sword of Damocles perennially hanging over his head, but after three wins in four matches and a dominant performance on Sunday, it's good to see the manager refuse to take shots at the handful of so-called fans who behaved badly a week ago.

Rather than going to war, the French caretaker played to the sentiment of the thousands of fans undecided over his fate, and the promise of reinforcements in January will no doubt help his cause.

Pardew's job is far safer than it was two months ago, and one heavy defeat at the hands of an Arsenal squad firing on all cylinders won't change that.
