Lakers Rumors: Baron Davis and Kobe Bryant Would Clash in LA Backcourt
The Los Angeles Lakers will be setting themselves up for a backcourt disaster if they sign free agent point guard Baron Davis this December.
According to the Los Angeles Times Mike Bresnahan, the Lakers are interested in the former LA Clipper.
"Veteran guard Baron Davis became a free agent Friday after none of the teams under the salary cap put in a bid to claim him. He can now sign with any team, and the Lakers and New York Knicks will look into his health before taking any further steps." - Mike Bresnahan for the LA Times

First of all, it will be 8-10 months before Davis will even be healthy enough to play consistently for an NBA team.
Davis was a journeyman last season, playing for the Clippers before being traded to the Cavaliers midseason.
Sorry Snoop Dogg, not only is Davis' health a major concern, there's no way B. Diddy would mesh with Kobe in the LA backcourt.
Davis is a scoring point guard at his best, otherwise he's contributing very little.
Although it's not exactly breaking news, Kobe Bryant does the scoring for the Lakers and dominates the ball.
Davis would have fewer chances to get into a rhythm, and his production would suffer.
It's not like his assist numbers go up when his scoring comes down. Davis averaged a career-high 8.9 assists per game in 2005-06 with the Golden State Warriors, but averaged just under seven per game last season with both the Clips and Cavs.
Davis averaged 12 field goal attempts per game last season, that's nearly twice as many as Derek Fisher's 6.5 in 2010-11.
How effective can Davis really be if he has to sacrifice his scoring attempts? Or how happy will Kobe be to watch Davis jacking up triples far more often than his good buddy Fisher?
Davis averaged 5.8 three-point attempts per game in 15 games with the Cavs last season, and averages 5.1 attempts from deep per game for his career. Fisher averaged 2.6 three-point attempts per game for his career, that's half as many.
The numbers don't lie. Baron Davis is not the right point guard for this LA team. Chris Paul got away from the Lakers, and they need to shake things up with a big move. That's for certain.
Unfortunately, Davis is not that move.
Kobe has a reputation of being a hothead from time to time, and Davis isn't a "go all out for the team" player that fits Kobe's sidekick role.
