WWE Hell in a Cell Results: Match by Match Breakdown

Joe M.Oct 3, 2010

In this article I will be breaking down the entire Hell in a Cell pay-per-view match by match. The match itself was just alright, but the having that "something's gotta give" stipulation made it all interesting.  Read it through and as always leave a comment or send me an e-mail at joe@wrestleslam.com.

Daneil Bryan Defeats The Miz and John Morrison To Retain The US Championship

1 of 6

The first match of the night was the Triple Threat Submissions Count Anywhere Match for the United States Championship.  It was a great technical wrestling match, but then again any match with Bryan Danielson is going to be a great technical match.  You had John Morrison making it interesting, flying around the ring, jumping off everything.  And then you had The Miz doing everything else, the strikes and throws, and of course wheeling carts around (how innovative).  The cart actually did provide for some exciting spots, though.  It was what you want from a No DQ match, out of ring action, around the arena, on the stage, interferences, camera men being attacked, you can't ask for a better No DQ Match.  (Well, blood would be nice, but the kiddies wouldn't like that).  In what wasn't a huge surprise Daniel Bryan made the The Miz tap out, ending the match.

On a scale of 1 - 10, this match gets an 8.5.

Randy Orton Defeats Sheamus To Retain The WWE Championship

2 of 6

In a surprising move, the WWE Championship Hell in a Cell match was only second on the card.  The first Hell in a Cell Match of the night, and it didn't fall short.  You had plenty of amazing spots that incorporated the Cell, the Steel Steps, and chairs, combined with a very good in-ring match.  It was a long match, but there was never a dull spot, it kept moving and getting better and better.  Randy Orton eventually hit an RKO on Sheamus over the Steel Steps for the win.

On a scale of 1 - 10, this match gets an 9.0.

Edge Defeats Jack Swagger

3 of 6

In the end he had nothing to do with the match, but the segment opened with Alberto Del Rio.  Edge interrupts Del Rio in his "fight against everything stupid in WWE".  Swagger then comes out and Alberto helps him beat down Edge.  The little ding sounds and the lights flicker and Michael Cole takes his post and announces the mystery GM has scheduled Jack Swagger vs. Edge, and that match would be now.  After a not too great match Edge defeats Jack Swagger.  Jack Swagger has been either off pay-per-view cards or losing lately, it seems as though his days in the main event are over.

On a scale of 1 - 10, this match gets a 5.1.

Wade Barrett Defeats John Cena

4 of 6

Next we had John Cena vs. Wade Barrett.  If Cena looses, he must joins Nexus, but if Barrett looses, Nexus must disband. The Nexus does come down the ramp, but stays on the ramp and doesn't get involved.  The Nexus surrounds the ring, and then the whole locker room runs out and attacks Nexus, with John Cena and Barrett still in the ring.  The referees get rid of everyone and the match starts up again.  Now, The match itself was pretty good, but the having that "something's gotta give" stipulation and the little locker room vs.Nexus brawl made it all interesting.  A "fan" attempted to run in the ring, distracting the ref and allowing another unknown guy to club Cena in the head, knocking him out, allowing Barrett to pick up the win.

On a scale of 1 - 10, this match gets a 7.0.

Natalya Defeats Michelle McCool (via DQ)

5 of 6

The second to last match of the night was Michelle McCool w/ Layla vs. Natalya for the Unified Divas Championship.  Now, Natalya is one of the few divas in WWE that can actually wrestle, which made the match better than most Divas matches, but it was still a Divas match and was only so good.  You also had Layla at ringside which made it more interesting and only helped the cause.  Overall, for a Divas segment, it was actually pretty good.  Natalya won via DQ, so LayCool kept their titles.

On a scale of 1 - 10, this match gets a 3.0.

Kane Defeats The Undertaker For The World Heavyweight Championship

6 of 6

The last match of the night was the much anticipated Hell in a Cell Match between Undertaker and Kane.  Literally over 10 years in the making.  Undertaker comes out with Paul Bearer and before the match starts, as Undertaker first enters the Cell, Kane attacks Undertaker.  There is a good amount of pre-match action, and finally the bell rings.  Kane somehow busts open the top of his head, but it's not horrible, there is a good amount of blood on his head, but it's not pouring out.  The trainer  doesn't  come out and stop the match to clean Kane up, either. Mid way through the match Kane tombstones Undertaker, but Undertaker kicks out and Kane punches the referee.  While a new ref comes in the Cell, Paul Bearer slips in also.  Kane goes after Paul, but Undertaker gets up.  The lights go out and the flames start shooting up and Undertaker signals for the Tombstone.  Paul Bearer then turned on Undertaker and gave Kane the urn. Kane hits Undertaker with the urn and chokeslams Undertaker for the win.  The match itself was a great match, and although it ended badly, the "screwjob" ending makes the storyline all the more interesting.

On a scale of 1 - 10, this match gets a 9.5.
