Raiders News: Dwayne Harris Signs Oakland Contract After 3 Years with Giants

Rob GoldbergApr 2, 2018

The Oakland Raiders added depth at receiver Monday, announcing the free-agent signing of Dwayne Harris.

The 30-year-old spent the past three seasons with the New York Giants after playing four years with the Dallas Cowboys. He is best known for his special teams ability, earning a Pro Bowl selection in 2016.

He was limited to just five games last season before going on injured reserve with a foot injury but has been an impact player when healthy.

Harris has averaged 26.1 yards per kickoff return in his career to go with 9.7 yards per punt return, scoring four total touchdowns on special teams.

Cordarrelle Patterson handled most of the kickoff-return duties for the Raiders last season, but the team traded him to the New England Patriots in March. Harris can take over this role right away while also potentially taking away the punt-return job from Jalen Richard.

Although Harris hasn't been quite as effective offensively in his career with just one catch over the last two seasons, he totaled 36 catches for 396 yards and four touchdowns in 2015. If given an opportunity, he could help out in receiver-heavy sets to provide more options for Derek Carr.

After also adding Jordy Nelson this offseason, Oakland should be much stronger at receiver in 2018.
