Kyrie Irving, Terry Rozier Talk Celtics' Team Meeting After Ending Losing Streak
Boston Celtics guards Kyrie Irving and Terry Rozier said Wednesday that they took part in a team meeting during their recent four-game losing streak.
The meeting took place Monday before Boston lost 108-107 to the Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday, according to ESPN.com's Chris Forsberg.
The Celtics emerged from their slump Wednesday in a 113-102 win over the Los Angeles Clippers.
After defeating the Clippers, Irving said the following about the meeting:
"When you're hitting a lull of losing games, you can tend to go your own direction and try to figure it out on your own. For us, we have great leadership at the top with [coach] Brad [Stevens], and he echoes a message to us leaders on the team, and then we go out there and try to maximize that opportunity of getting better every single day. And I think that we did a great job of just putting everything out on the table. And it's just about being professional and going out there and executing."
Rozier also chimed in, saying: "We just all had a meeting and we talked about a lot of things that we can get better at. We were struggling, but it was good to get a win today. Just hopefully we can pick it back up and just stay positive and go up from here."
Both Irving and Rozier were somewhat cautious in what they revealed on the heels of a Cleveland Cavaliers team meeting going public Monday.
Irving said team meetings happen fairly regularly over the course of the season:
"I'm trying to think about the right thing to say before it gets misconstrued. Team meetings, it happens all the time. We could call every time we meet a team meeting. And throughout your professional career there are going to be times where you're tested. And for us it was things that we can control and everyone being great at their role, and us collectively coming together even better as a group."
Rozier simply said the goal of the meeting was to "play better as a group."
Prior to Wednesday's win, Boston had lost to the New Orleans Pelicans, Philadelphia 76ers, Orlando Magic and Lakers in succession.
It was a rare losing streak for a team that remains atop the Eastern Conference at 35-14.
While the meeting appeared to help the Celtics, the rival Cavs are still reeling after their meeting, as they fell 114-102 to the San Antonio Spurs on Tuesday.
