Iman Shumpert Calls Out Kevin Durant for Warriors Contract, Blames Star for Costing Him 2 NBA Titles

Iman Shumpert won a championship with the Cleveland Cavaliers, but he's still upset he didn't win more against Kevin Durant and the powerhouse Golden State Warriors.

"You the reason I missed out on two rings, dog. It was your fault," he said when discussing Durant's decision to join the Warriors during an appearance on Gil's Arena (11:30 mark in the video below).

Shumpert was a role player for the 2015-16 Cavaliers that stunned the 73-win Warriors in the NBA Finals that season. Rather than running it back, Golden State responded to the NBA Finals loss by adding Durant the following offseason.

That Durant was a member of the Oklahoma City Thunder team that lost in seven games to the Warriors in the 2016 Western Conference Finals before he joined Golden State only opened him up to more criticism from fans around the league.

Shumpert's comments make it seem like the decision also bothered the Cavaliers as well.

The guard was with Cleveland the next two seasons as well as a member of teams that reached the NBA Finals once again with LeBron James leading the way. However, the Cavaliers lost to the Warriors in the Finals twice in a row before Shumpert later finished his career for the Sacramento Kings, Houston Rockets and Brooklyn Nets.

Durant took home the NBA Finals MVP in 2017 and again in 2018 for a Warriors team that featured a ton of star power with Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green as well. Perhaps if he remained with the Thunder, the Cavaliers would have ended up winning those two championships like they did in 2016.

It is quite a jump to assume that the Curry-led team wouldn't have won at least one of those rings even without Durant, especially since Golden State was up 3-1 over Cleveland in 2016 before Green was suspended and changed the series.

To hear Shumpert tell it, though, Durant cost him two additional titles.
