Knicks Rumors: Kings VP Scott Perry Met with NY to Discuss GM Job

The New York Knicks met with Sacramento Kings vice president Scott Perry on Thursday and are "discussing parameters" of a deal to make him the team's next general manager, according to ESPN.com's Adrian Wojnarowski and Ian Begley. 

The news comes after NorthJersey.com's Steve Popper cited two league sources who said the Knicks had finalized the restructuring of their front office after finding a new GM to work alongside Steve Mills, who will become the team's president following the departure of Phil Jackson. 

The Kings hired Perry as their new vice president of basketball operations in April after he spent five years in a similar position with the Orlando Magic. 

Wojnarowski reported that even though the Kings recently brought him aboard, they showed a "willingness to allow Perry to pursue a promotion to a dream job."

Perry also previously served as a key component of the Detroit Pistons front office in various roles, including the team's director of pro player personnel and vice president of basketball operations. 

If Perry and the Knicks can hammer out terms, his first task figures to be finding trade partners for a potential Carmelo Anthony blockbuster. 

According to Wojnarowski, the Knicks and Houston Rockets have been thumbing through trade scenarios that would allow Anthony to team up with Chris Paul and James Harden.

However, talks have been complicated by the fact that the Knicks don't want to take Ryan Anderson's remaining three years and $61.2 million back in a deal, which means the two sides have had to explore three- and four-team deals to try to facilitate a move.
