Andre Iguodala, Rockets Reportedly Schedule Free-Agency Meeting

Tim DanielsJul 1, 2017

Former Golden State Warriors forward Andre Iguodala and the Houston Rockets are reportedly set to hold a free-agent meeting Saturday morning.

Chris Haynes of ESPN passed along word of the gathering following the start of the open market's moratorium period early Saturday.

Iguodala, who spent the past four years with the Warriors, has been one of the most talked about names heading into free agency after playing a pivotal role as the Dubs' sixth man for the past three seasons. He averaged 7.6 points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.4 assists in 26.3 minutes per game last campaign.

Harden: Fatigue Not Excuse

ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski‏ noted the Los Angeles Lakers spoke with the 33-year-old University of Arizona product within the first few hours of free agency. Sam Amick of USA Today passed along word the Sacramento Kings have also been in contact.

Haynes also noted the San Antonio Spurs secured a meeting with Iguodala, who didn't plan to meet with the Warriors about potentially re-signing while he explores the other available options.

That doesn't mean he won't ultimately end up back with Golden State, though.

Daniel Mano of the Bay Area News Group passed along comments the veteran forward made last month during an appearance on KBLX Radio.

"Business is business, so you've got to do your due diligence," Iguodala said. "I'ma let my people do their thing and see how it goes, but the Bay has been special to me. …You always have your perfect situation and you hope that gets done. So I'ma let my people do their jobs. I just want everybody to be respectful of that and not get too emotional about it, because I've been getting hit up (like) crazy and I haven't said anything so I'm just a little lost at times, like what happened? I just had a newborn so I've been at home trying to be a good father."

It's unclear whether Iguodala is prioritizing championship contention, playing time or simply the best financial offer on the open market. But after winning two titles in the last three years with the Warriors, it wouldn't be a surprise to see him seek out a bigger individual role elsewhere.
