Carmelo Anthony Plays 400th Career Game for New York Knicks
New York Knicks star Carmelo Anthony played his 400th career game for the franchise Sunday against the Golden State Warriors, per Basketball Reference.
Anthony held 9,951 points with the Knicks when the game tipped off. He added another 15 points to that total to finish with 9,966 through his 400th contest with the club, besting the 27 others who previously reached the milestone, per ESPN Stats & Info.
His effort wasn't enough to keep New York from dropping its second straight tilt, falling 112-105 to the Warriors. The loss moved the club further to the edges of the playoff picture. The Knicks (25-38) now sit 12th in the Eastern Conference, 5.5 games back of the Detroit Pistons for the eighth seed with three other teams between the two.
Carmelo has started off March slowly, notching just 16.7 points per game in the first three contests since the calendar flipped. However, January and February marked his two highest monthly per-game outputs of the season.
While Anthony seemed to be at the center of the Knicks' trade talks prior to the deadline, only point guard Brandon Jennings was dealt. President Phil Jackson may have his disagreements with the club's star veteran, but he may have to prepare to keep him for at least two more seasons thanks to Carmelo's no-trade clause.
Anthony currently owns the fifth spot on the franchise's all-time scoring list and stands a good chance at passing both Allan Houston (11,165) and Willis Reed (12,182) if he stays with the club for the duration of his contract.
