WWE Raw Results: Biggest Winners, Losers and Moments from February 27

Erik BeastonFeb 28, 2017

The final WWE Raw before the Fastlane pay-per-view this Sunday proved to be a mess of last-minute hype and meaningless matches, with the urgency surrounding the upcoming event almost nonexistent.

Still, the show spawned several winners and losers who will look to roll into Fastlane and beyond, gearing up for WrestleMania season in the process.

There was the returning Architect, reflective on his career and confrontational with one of wrestling's most powerful officials.

Then there was the dominant force of the women's division, proving on a weekly basis that she has no peers.

And what about the universal champion, gearing up for the most significant match of his acclaimed career?

These are just three characters to leave an impression during Monday's broadcast. Which side of the argument did they wind up on, and why?

Take a look for yourself with this exclusive recap of the Feb. 27 episode of WWE's flagship show.

Winner: Nia Jax

1 of 5

Like Braun Strowman, Nia Jax continues to benefit from booking that allows her to be presented in a way that is both dominant and masks her weaknesses.

Monday night, she was the undisputed star of a tag team match pitting her and Charlotte Flair against Sasha Banks and Raw women's champion Bayley.

Jax destroyed the competition, fending both the champion and The Boss off before flattening the former with a leg drop and scoring the win for her team.

The former NXT star was the superior wrestler in Monday's match, tossing the popular babyfaces around the ring with reckless abandon and, in the process, further cementing her status as the next logical contender to the top prize in women's wrestling.

WrestleMania awaits her, but the question becomes whether she will have to knock off Bayley or Banks or become somewhat of an antihero by dethroning the hated Flair.

Regardless of whom she stands across the ring from—or if it is all three of them—Jax figures to have a career year in 2017 if her booking Monday night is any indication.

Loser: The New Day

2 of 5

The New Day's descent into mediocrity and meaninglessness continued Monday night as Xavier Woods and Big E once again did battle with Rusev and Jinder Mahal. Making matters worse for the dynamic trio was a pre-match promo that failed to inspire laughs.

A terrible joke poking fun at the Oscars flub from the previous night only served to prove how unfunny the material was.

Woods and Big E's win over Rusev and Mahal did nothing to help their stature or earn them anything even remotely resembling momentum. Instead, it ensured the holding pattern would continue.

Given the team's status as host of WrestleMania 33, it would behoove WWE Creative to give it something meaningful to do so its stint on the biggest show of the year does not come across as menial as it does on paper.

Winner: Sami Zayn

3 of 5

Sami Zayn had had enough, and he was not going to take it anymore.

After weeks of being the recipient of beatdowns at the hands of Samoa Joe, he returned the favor Monday night, catching The Samoan Submission Machine off guard with a sneak attack and then stunning him with a dive from the entrance stage that left the former NXT star rattled and infuriated.

The Underdog from the Underground may be at his best when he is generating sympathy while enduring a tremendous beating, but he is almost equally as great when he is ferocious and fierce, hellbent on avenging the attacks that left him vulnerable and beaten.

That was the case Monday night.

No longer willing to be Joe's punching bag, he was fearless as he assaulted the heavyweight competitor.

It worked and led to one of the hottest angles of the night, thanks almost exclusively to the intensity shown by the Canadian.

Loser: Kevin Owens

4 of 5

Too little, too late.

That is the best way to describe Kevin Owens' shift in tone ahead of his match with Goldberg at Fastlane.

The universal champion has spent months as the straight man to Chris Jericho's comedic best friend. Then, on one night, he suddenly and inexplicably betrayed his best friend and refocused his attention on his upcoming match with Da Man.

Monday, he cut a fantastic promo in which he documented everything he has accomplished in WWE, including an impressive list of Superstars he has defeated.

While he was serious and intently focused on beating Goldberg, it was far too little, far too late for a Superstar whose championship reign has been as lackluster and mediocre as possible, thanks to questionable booking on the part of WWE Creative.

Now, he enters Fastlane a lame-duck champion, almost assuredly losing his title to a past-his-prime part-timer whose stint with the company will be far shorter than his own.

All of the extraordinary promo work in the world cannot make up for the plethora of booking missteps that have plagued his reign to date.

Winner: Seth Rollins

5 of 5

Seth Rollins returned to Raw Monday night and cut one of the best promos of his entire career.

Reflective, he admitted he may have made the wrong choice in selling out to The Authority three years ago. He pondered karma having something to do with his rash of injuries over the last two years, perhaps the result of the way he won the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 31.

That is character development of the highest order—a moral growth of a man before the eyes of the fans.

It is the type of evolution audiences thirst for but are rarely treated to.

From there, he vowed that, if WrestleMania is the last time he sets foot inside a squared circle, he will make sure it is Triple H's last time as well.

It is a threat that generates interest and heat for a match that should, if it actually happens, have plenty as is.

Rollins was on point Monday night with everything he did—from his body language to his words and the tone of them. For a guy often criticized for a laugh that sounds too forced or words that are often too rehearsed, he hit every mark on Raw and added even more anticipation and excitement to his impending showdown with The Game.
