Chris Paul Questionable to Return from Injury for Clippers vs. Spurs
After missing 14 games due to a thumb injury, Los Angeles Clippers point guard Chris Paul announced his return to action Friday in a since-deleted tweet.
CP3 suggested he will be back in the lineup when the Clips host the San Antonio Spurs on Friday night by tweeting, "Back at it. #LetsGo #ClipperNation," before deleting it.
The Clippers previously tweeted that Paul is listed as questionable for Friday's game.
Per Beth Harris of the Associated Press (h/t NBA.com), the 31-year-old veteran received medical clearance Wednesday after recovering from a torn ligament in his left thumb.
During Paul's absence, the Clippers posted a 6-8 record, and they currently sit tied for fourth in the Western Conference standings with the Utah Jazz at 35-22.
Austin Rivers started in Paul's place, and although he is enjoying a career-best season, L.A. is much better off with head coach Doc Rivers' son serving as a backup swing guard.
Paul's numbers are down slightly this season at 17.5 points and 9.7 assists per game, but he remains one of the elite players at his position and the lifeblood of the Clippers' attack.
The nine-time All-Star was key in helping the Clippers oust the Spurs from the playoffs two seasons ago, and his return Friday will give Los Angeles added energy against the Western Conference's second-place team.
