Kristaps Porzingis Reportedly Will Miss 'Several Days' with Ankle Injury
New York Knicks star Kristaps Porzingis' ankle injury suffered during Thursday's loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers will keep him off the court for the foreseeable future.
Per Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical, Porzingis is expected to be out for "several days" but was able to avoid any ligament damage to his ankle.
Per Laura Albanese of Newsday, Porzingis said he sees playing in the Knicks' game against the Toronto Raptors on Monday as "feasible" if doctors clear him from a sprained ankle.
Porzingis has had problems with his left Achilles already this season, missing four games in January after suffering the injury during a game against the Philadelphia 76ers.
The good news for the Knicks is Porzingis' ankle injury was on the right side. It's a small silver lining for a team that has fallen to 21-35 after Thursday's loss and is six games out of a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.
Following the Cavs' game, per Stefan Bondy of the New York Daily News, Porzingis commented on his recent bout with injuries and how it will impact him.
"All these challenges and all these sickness or injuries, always accept it as a challenge. Maybe it's something I need to get my mind off a little bit. Maybe that's why it happens or things like that. It happens, but I always take it as a challenge. I always think about the next step of coming back and coming back better.
"
Porzingis is emerging as a foundation piece for the Knicks. He's averaging 18.1 points, seven rebounds and 1.3 assists per game this season.
No matter how good Porzingis is, his development will depend on staying healthy. It's been a struggle for him since January and one more hurdle for the struggling Knicks to overcome in this disastrous season.
