WWE 205 Live Results: Winners, Grades, Reaction and Highlights from February 21

The Doctor Chris MuellerFeb 21, 2017

It took longer than expected for the cruiserweight division to catch on, but the last two weeks have been great for 205 Live and the division's segments on WWE Raw.

The feud between Jack Gallagher and Neville took a big step forward Monday night during their contract signing. Both men were good on the mic, and the crowd seemed to be invested.

We have also seen a new storyline develop between Akira Tozawa and The Brian Kendrick. The former cruiserweight champion wanted to be a mentor to Tozawa, but the Japanese Superstar wanted nothing to do with him.

Let's take a look at everything that happened on this week's episode of 205 Live.

The Brian Kendrick vs. Akira Tozawa

1 of 3

Akira Tozawa and The Brian Kendrick met for the first match of the night, and just like their encounter on Monday, Tozawa refused to shake his opponent's hand.

Kendrick was confident before the bell, but Tozawa was fired up and took control immediately while screaming, "I don't need you."

The more experienced Kendrick eventually took over by using his usual array of dirty tactics. His grasp of heel psychology is on par with the best in the company right now, and it was on full display in this bout.

After both men tried unsuccessfully to win with their finishers a few different times, Kendrick resorted to tying Tozawa's foot under the ring to win by count-out.

The finish might not have been exciting, but it made Kendrick look like the wily rule-breaker he should be. This was a good way to end the match without making either competitor look weak.

Grade: B

Notes and Highlights

  • 205 Live has the best opening video out of all the weekly shows WWE puts on. The song is generic, but the clips being used are edited together in a great way.
  • It will be great to see Austin Aries return to the ring, but he will be missed on commentary. He's a great heel announcer.
  • It took exactly one night for the crowd to start doing Tozawa's signature grunt during his matches. If only it was that easy for every Superstar to get over.
  • Kendrick's pants looked like a cross between a Magic Eye painting and pink snakeskin.

Noam Dar vs. Mustafa Ali

2 of 3

Naom Dar and Mustafa Ali battled in the night's second match. There was no storyline behind this contest, but it was still fun to watch.

Ali has been impressive since his debut, but Dar has established himself as one of the top heels in the division despite being stuck in a bad storyline with Alicia Fox.

The Scottish Supernova kept the action on the mat while he was in control, so it was up to Ali to amp things up when he had the upper hand.

Dar picked up the win with a beautiful running kick to the head, which looked like a combination of an enziguri and a shining wizard.

Grade: C+

Notes and Highlights

  • Ali would benefit from something special during his entrance (e.g. some pyro or different lighting in the arena).
  • Ali's dropkick is almost perfect. His technique is what trainees at the WWE Performance Center should be trying to emulate.
  • Corey Graves said Fox was absent from ringside due to being ill.
  • After the match was over, Austin Aries introduced a video package hyping his own upcoming debut like the baller he is.

Tony Nese vs. Jack Gallagher

3 of 3

Jack Gallagher is the No. 1 contender for the cruiserweight title, so WWE booked him to face Neville's doppelganger, Tony Nese.

Despite being a pawn to make Gallagher look good, Nese put everything he had into this match to make sure it was a good main event.

His power was on full display as he threw Gentleman Jack all over the ring, but the Englishman used his signature brand of offense to keep himself in the game.

This proved to be a solid main event. Gallagher picked up the win to continue building momentum heading into Fastlane.

Grade: B+

Notes and Highlights

  • Gallagher's use of submissions is reminiscent of how Daniel Bryan used to wrestle before coming to WWE. He takes a hold and modifies it just enough to make it unique.
  • It's official. Gallagher has the best headbutt in the business.
  • Nese's spider suplex from the top rope was awesome. He should use it as a finisher. Nobody else on the roster uses it, and the move looks great.
