WWE Raw Results: Biggest Winners, Losers and Moments from February 20

Erik BeastonFeb 21, 2017

With WWE's Fastlane pay-per-view just 13 days away, the Raw brand rolled into Los Angeles for the Feb. 20 show, and several high-profile stars earned themselves "winner" statuses, creating momentum for themselves in the process.

Two unstoppable badasses and the fiercest woman in the room captured the attention of fans, thanks to strong booking and even more impressive individual performances.

Three tag team specialists were not quite as lucky, their characters' effectiveness and credibility diminished following disappointing booking decisions.

With so much on the line and the final brand-exclusive extravaganza right around the corner, the importance of preserving heat and writing strong storyline developments for the men and women of WWE's flagship show was of the utmost importance.

Why did some benefit exponentially, and why did others have such disappointing nights?

Find out through this exclusive recap of Monday's broadcast.

Winner: Braun Strowman

1 of 5

Braun Strowman continues to be the most competently booked wrestler on the WWE roster, as evidenced by his usage Monday night on Raw.

Not only did Strowman overcome Big Show, using his incredible strength to score the pinfall off a powerslam, but he was also allowed to kick out of the former world champion's two finishing maneuvers. Neither the chokeslam nor the knockout punch downed Strowman, whose portrayal has been more akin to an unstoppable beast than a human being.

After securing the pinfall victory, he weathered an onslaught from Roman Reigns and planted him with another powerslam, standing tall to close out a show that once again put him over as a force of nature ahead of Fastlane.

The athleticism Strowman showed during the better-than-expected match with Big Show was impressive, and the strength he showed as he slammed the giant to the mat was awe-inspiring. Couple that with the strong booking and another night of leaving Reigns lying in a heap, and you have the most significantly pushed star on the roster and the clear biggest winner from the Feb. 20 show.

Losers: Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows

2 of 5

The best tag team on Raw, according to its status as champions, could not beat Roman Reigns despite a 2-on-1 Handicap match advantage.

Let that sink in for a moment while you also contemplate that a badass team of brutes like Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows have struggled to get over with WWE fans.

Even though there was a steel chair involved, with Reigns officially losing via disqualification, there is no excusing the fact that Anderson and Gallows fled from The Big Dog and that the former WWE champion outclassed them.

There is never any valid argument to be made for the tag team champions to be beaten by a single Superstar, no matter how prominent the star or how strongly booked that competitor is.

Anderson and Gallows earned the titles via strong victory over Sheamus and Cesaro. During that feud, they re-established credibility and looked strong as they squared off with the celebrated in-ring performers.

To sacrifice their heat and momentum to put Reigns over neither makes sense nor does it help them in any manner whatsoever, leading to more questions about the reasoning behind the booking decision.

Winner: Sasha Banks

3 of 5

As Sasha Banks stood just feet from Stephanie McMahon, staring the Raw commissioner down while insisting Bayley not relinquish the Raw Women's Championship, fans got a look at the fearless and fierce character they had fallen in love with during Banks' time in NXT.

It had been a few weeks since that character reared its head on WWE programming, thanks to a mixture of both intricate storytelling and inconsistent booking.

Not only did she stand up to McMahon, unafraid of any potential backlash, but she also went on to defeat Charlotte Flair via submission with the Bank Statement.

While she benefited from interference by Bayley, it was a nice way to get Banks back on track following a tumultuous start to the year that included a one-sided ass-kicking at the hands of Nia Jax back at the Royal Rumble pay-per-view.

It is obvious that the friendly relationship between her and Bayley will most likely end with another major Raw betrayal, but after the brief interaction with McMahon, a battle between two strong female characters is a fun idea that WWE officials may want to explore.

Loser: Enzo Amore

4 of 5

Enzo Amore was once one of the most over Superstars on the roster, but Monday night, just moments after a victory that earned him and Big Cass a tag team title opportunity at Fastlane, he cut a promo that was interrupted via Brogue Kick.

The crowd's response was not that of boos and jeers. No, the Los Angeles faithful chanted "Thank you, Sheamus!"

That is as blatant an indicator that a Superstar is becoming annoying and venturing into "cartoon" territory. That sentiment is not entirely wrong. Amore's over-the-top promo style is no longer edgy, fun or different, the likes of which got him over with the masses in the first place. Instead, it is cliched, overdone and grating on the nerves.

The Brogue Kick that silenced him and then generated a chant of praise and thanks was hopefully the wake-up call WWE Creative needs when it comes to Amore. The smaller Superstar is one of the most engaging stars on the roster. Ruining the connection he had with fans in hopes of creating an over-the-top caricature is the wrong step to take and potentially damaging to the effectiveness and popularity of the performer.

Winner: Samoa Joe

5 of 5

Samoa Joe's attack of Sami Zayn continued his warpath through WWE Raw and set him up for a showdown with The Underdog from the Underground at Fastlane on March 5.

Showing incredible intensity as he repeatedly sent Zayn into the ring post, he yelled, "Keep my name out of your mouth," as he obliterated the smaller babyface.

It is the fourth week in a row that Joe has made a name for himself as the baddest man on Raw, brutalizing and leaving anyone in his way in a heap of flesh and bone. He is believable as the destructive hitman of The Authority and a match with Zayn should help put him over to the masses as the phenomenal in-ring performer he is.

Joe has an air about him that others do not. He invests himself emotionally and physically into the Samoan Submission Machine character, and the result is the realest badass in the room.
