Pau Gasol Injures Shoulder Colliding with Brother Marc, Could Miss Warriors Game
San Antonio Spurs center Pau Gasol suffered a shoulder injury during Monday's 100-98 win over the Memphis Grizzlies in a collision with his brother, Marc Gasol.
According to ESPN.com's Michael C. Wright, Spurs point guard Tony Parker said Gasol's status is in doubt for Thursday's game against the Golden State Warriors.
"He hurt his shoulder, and he told me it was bad," Parker said. "We will see, but I'm pretty sure he's not going to play against Golden State."
Gasol served as a strong frontcourt complement alongside LaMarcus Aldridge last season in his first year with the Spurs, but he did miss a hefty chunk of time after he suffered a broken bone in his left hand.
The Spaniard rounded out the regular season by averaging 12.4 points, 7.8 rebounds and 1.1 blocks per game while shooting 50.2 percent from the field and a career-high 53.8 percent from three.
While Gasol turned 37 over the summer, the Spurs didn't hesitate to re-sign him to a three-year, $48 million deal.
Now 60 appearances into the 2017-18 campaign, Gasol is averaging a career-low 10.7 points, 8.4 rebounds and 1.1 blocks on 46.0 percent shooting.
For as long as Gasol is on the shelf, Davis Bertans is likely to see increased playing time. Bertans scored 17 points in 19 minutes off the bench during Monday's win.
Joffrey Lauvergne also promises to play a more vital role in the frontcourt rotation.
