Lamb Active vs. Cavaliers

Wednesday, Feb. 3

The Hornets announced Lamb will be active for Wednesday's game against Cleveland.

Lamb Key to Hornets' Backcourt

The Hornets acquired Lamb in a trade with the Oklahoma City Thunder this past offseason, and he has paid immediate dividends. The former first-round draft pick of the Houston Rockets played somewhat sparingly for OKC, but he has thrived in an increased role with Charlotte to the tune of a career-high 11.2 points and 4.6 rebounds on 47 percent shooting from the field and 31.1 percent from three.

With the likes of Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook dominating the ball for the Thunder, there simply wasn't much room for Lamb to make a true impact as an offensive player.

Lamb was heavy on potential and light on production when he arrived in Charlotte, but that didn't stop the organization from signing him to a contract extension early in his tenure with the team. According to Rick Bonnell of the Charlotte Observer, it was a three-year deal worth $21 million, which spoke volumes about the Hornets' confidence in Lamb.

While it was undoubtedly a big gamble, Darnell Mayberry of the Oklahoman had good things to say about Lamb and what he brings to the table:

The same is true of Hornets head coach Steve Clifford, who gushed about Lamb's all-around skill set on the offensive end shortly after the team extended him, per Scott Fowler of the Charlotte Observer:

"

The thing he possesses is size and skill. He can really shoot. I think he's capable of shooting 40 percent from three. But this is what I didn't really understand. He's better off the dribble than I thought. And he can really pass.

"

Charlotte's decision to commit to Lamb has looked like a sound one to this point, but it remains to be seen whether he can continue to build on his early success this season.
