College Football Initial Top 25 Recruiting Classes for 2027
The work on the 2027 recruiting class started a long time ago. Now, though, it's officially the cycle to know in college football.
Unsurprisingly, a handful of big-name programs are enjoying a hot start. Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Ohio State, Notre Dame and Georgia sit atop the early rankings thanks to some highly ranked commitments.
But there's also a pair of unexpected ACC programs in the Top 10.
Shoutout to FCS team Sacramento State, which is actually 16th in the class rankings as of publish time. However, this Top 25 is focused on FBS programs.
Data is from the 247Sports Composite Rankings.
25-21. Iowa, Wisconsin, Pitt, Vanderbilt and Boston College
1 of 5
25. Iowa Hawkeyes
Class: 3 commits (one 4-star)
To the shock of absolutely zero people, Iowa's pledges are each in-state prospects. The highest-rated player is linebacker Gavin Stecker, a 4-star who is 352nd nationally and the No. 4 talent in Iowa. Another commit is 3-star tight end Jaxx DeJean, the brother of former Hawkeyes star and NFL corner Cooper DeJean.
24. Wisconsin Badgers
Class: 3 commits (one 4-star)
Similarly, Wisconsin has continued its regular trend of finding some immediate local success. Four-star tight end Korz Loken is currently atop the rankings in Wisconsin and ranked 146th overall in the class.
23. Pitt Panthers
Class: 4 commits
Pitt, meanwhile, has made a dent in Florida. All four commits are from the Sunshine State, including 3-star running back Tyler Reid—the brother of recent Pitt standout and NFL-bound back Desmond Reid.
22. Vanderbilt Commodores
Class: 3 commits (one 4-star)
It's awfully convenient when the No. 60 prospect in the cycle is just down the road. Nashville product Omarii Sanders, a 4-star linebacker, committed to the Commodores in late November as they wrapped up a first-ever 10-win season.
21. Boston College Eagles
Class: 4 commits
Bill O'Brien is occupying a steadily warming seat, but assembling a quality recruiting class certainly wouldn't hurt his job security. Three-star safety Jackson Tucker has been pledged to BC since October 2024.
20-16. Oregon, Washington, Miami, Tennessee, Michigan
2 of 5
20. Oregon Ducks
Class: 4 commits (one 4-star)
At some point reasonably soon, Oregon will probably surge up the rankings. The staff has many strong recruiters, and the program has plenty of resources at its disposal. For now, the Ducks' lone 4-star commit is edge-rusher Cameron Pritchett, who checks in 230th overall.
19. Washington Huskies
Class: 4 commits (two 4-stars)
Nothing is official, of course, but Washington is on track to bolster its receiving corps. Braylon Pope (193rd)—the best in-state prospect in the early stages of the cycle—and Zerek Sidney (346th) are both 4-star talents.
18. Miami Hurricanes
Class: 4 commits (three 4-stars)
Heavily involved with several top-ranked players, Miami has a path to finishing among the nation's preeminent classes. In the meantime, though, the 'Canes hold commitments from a trio of local 4-stars in edge Demarcus Deroche, wideout Ah'Mari Stevens and safety Jaylyn Jones.
17. Tennessee Volunteers
Class: 4 commits (two 4-stars)
Tennessee's early success in the 2027 cycle is within the trenches. Four-star offensive lineman Princeton Uwaifo is an in-state product and 138th nationally, while defensive lineman Kadin Fife is 285th.
16. Michigan Wolverines
Class: 4 commits (two 4-stars)
Bryce Underwood theoretically will be Michigan's QB for the next two or three seasons. Once he's gone, though, perhaps the successor will be Peter Bourque. He's rated 86th nationally as of now.
15-11. Alabama, Louisville, Indiana, Clemson and Florida State
3 of 5
15. Alabama Crimson Tide
Class: 4 commits (three 4-stars)
In-state recruiting is essential for Kalen DeBoer's reputation at Alabama, and the Crimson Tide are off to a decent start in 2027. They hold pledges from 4-star edge Jabarrius Garror (100th) and 4-star quarterback Trent Seaborn (255th).
14. Louisville Cardinals
Class: 5 commits (four 4-stars)
A name to make Millennials feel a bit older than we already are, Jack Sorgi is committed to Louisville. Yes, that would be the son of former Wisconsin and Indianapolis Colts QB Jim Sorgi. He's ranked 274th in the cycle, while UL's top commit is local cornerback Allen Evans (106th).
13. Indiana Hoosiers
Class: 5 commits (two 4-stars)
The reigning champs are certain to see a recruiting bump in 2027. Early on, the Hoosiers have landed a couple of 4-stars with athlete Monsanna Torbert Jr. (309th) and wide receiver Ja'Hyde Brown (361st).
12. Clemson Tigers
Class: 5 commits (two 4-stars)
Clemson won a national title when Deshaun Watson—a product of Gainesville High in Georgia—led the offense. No pressure, Kharim Hughley! He's a 4-star quarterback from Gainesville and ranks 160th in the class.
11. Florida State Seminoles
Class: 5 commits (three 4-stars)
All three of Florida State's blue-chip pledges are defenders. That group includes safety Mekhi Williams (129th), edge-rusher Anthony Cavallaro (248th) and linebacker Gregory Batson (307th).
10-6. Texas, Virginia, Texas Tech, Syracuse and Nebraska
4 of 5
10. Texas Longhorns
Class: 5 commits (one 5-star, one 4-star)
On the heels of handing rival Texas A&M its first loss in the 2025 season, Texas then celebrated the commitment of 5-star wideout Easton Royal. Seemed like a pretty fun Thanksgiving week for the Longhorns, no?
9. Virginia Cavaliers
Class: 7 commits (one 4-star)
Virginia? In the top 10? Sure, the Cavaliers should drop in the rankings as the cycle continues. But they've enjoyed a boost on the trail following an 11-win season, snagging a run of early commitments led by 4-star receiver Demarcus Brown.
8. Texas Tech Red Raiders
Class: 5 commits (two 5-stars, two 4-stars)
Not only do the Red Raiders have No. 5 prospect and 5-star athlete Jalen Brewster—presumably a defensive lineman—in the fold, they boast the cycle's top quarterback. Kavian Bryant, another 5-star, checks in 26th overall with an electric dual-threat profile that has Texas Tech excited for the future.
7. Syracuse Orange
Class: 8 commits (one 4-star)
Syracuse has one of the largest 2027 classes, which is mostly the reason for the Orange boasting a top-10 haul at the moment. Still, they feature a blue-chipper with 4-star athlete Tristin Hughes (367th).
6. Nebraska Cornhuskers
Class: 6 commits (one 5-star, two 4-stars)
Matt Rhule has a reputation for breaking down a program before building it up, and that window is opening in his fourth year at the school. Nebraska is hoping 5-star athlete Tory Pittman III (30th) and 4-star QB Trae Taylor (55th) soon become foundational pieces of competitive teams.
5-1. Georgia, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Texas A&M and Oklahoma
5 of 5
5. Georgia Bulldogs
Class: 6 commits (two 5-stars, one 4-star)
Offensive tackle Kelsey Adams (54th) is a well-regarded player, yet Georgia has a pair of elite commits. Running back Kemon Spell is atop his position and seventh in the class, while cornerback Donte Wright is ranked 31st. Kirby Smart has never not signed a top-10 group in Athens.
4. Notre Dame Fighting Irish
Class: 7 commits (six 4-stars)
Sure, we could talk about 4-star cornerback Xavier Hasan (39th) or any of the other blue-chippers for Notre Dame. How about a little shine for Sean Kraft, the highest-rated long-snapper of the cycle? That's the good stuff, folks.
3. Ohio State Buckeyes
Class: 9 commits (two 5-stars, five 4-stars)
The departure of longtime wide receivers coach Brian Hartline will be felt in recruiting eventually, but he helped the Buckeyes land 5-star athlete Jamier Brown way back in October 2024. Brown is the No. 6 prospect in 2027, closely followed by edge-rusher DJ Jacobs at eighth in the country.
2. Texas A&M Aggies
Class: 10 commits (one 5-star, nine 4-stars)
Four-star quarterback Jayce Johnson (53rd) is notable, but Texas A&M is loading up the secondary. Five-star safety JayQuan Snell (37th), 4-star safety Kamarui Dorsey (42nd) and 4-star cornerback Raylaun Henry (61st) are committed to the Aggies, as is 4-star athlete/corner Hakim Frampton (355th).
1. Oklahoma Sooners
Class: 13 commits (two 5-stars, five 4-stars)
Oklahoma has a tremendous mix of quality and quantity, showcasing the largest class in the country with a pair of 5-stars. Those top prospects are offensive tackles Cooper Hackett (14th) and Kaeden Penny (28th), a couple of in-state talents who could be the bookends of OU's offensive line in the future.
