WWE Raw Results: Biggest Winners, Losers and Moments from July 20

Erik BeastonJul 21, 2015

The Divas revolution continued Monday night, just 24 hours after Charlotte and Sasha Banks made their pay-per-view debuts at Battleground, ensuring that the incredibly talented women would emerge from WWE's flagship show as this week's biggest winners.

Charlotte and Brie Bella got the night's in-ring action kicked off on the right foot with a quality match that lasted nine minutes and sold the second-generation Diva as a legitimate threat to the Divas Championship, held by Nikki Bella.

Later in the night, Banks would team with Naomi to face Paige and Becky Lynch in a fantastic tag team match that concluded when the NXT Women's champion forced the Brit to tap out to the Bank Statement.

In all, the Divas enjoyed 24 minutes of ring time, suggesting that Triple H, Stephanie McMahon and the rest of WWE management are serious about expanding the role of female talent on Raw and SmackDown. The fact that Banks and Naomi vs. The Bella Twins is the only match announced for SmackDown ahead of time strengthens that belief.

It has been a long time since women were allowed the opportunity to enjoy the amount of television time that they did on Monday night. Charlotte, Bella, Banks, Naomi, Paige and Lynch made the most of the opportunity, delivering performances that will only strengthen the belief their supporters have in them and lead to more chances to wow the audience down the line.

Who joined the Divas as big winners Monday night, and which breakout star captained the losers from this week's show?

Take a look.

Loser: Kevin Owens

One night after losing to John Cena at Battleground, the nightmare scenario that fans were concerned about began, as Kevin Owens became just another heel on the show.

Sure, he was in the main event and fought with both of his tag team partners, but that does not excuse the fact that his role was diminished significantly Monday night. That he was part of the mess of midcard stars that separated Brock Lesnar and Undertaker earlier in the night only cements the fact that his momentum has significantly stalled.

Like Rusev and Bray Wyatt, who enjoyed lengthy rivalries with Cena but lost in the end and rapidly moved down the card, Owens now faces a future of uncertainty. A feud with Cesaro is his next-best option.

While there is no doubt that a feud with the Swiss Superstar would net outstanding matches, it is hardly the way to maximize the potential Owens has to be a main event heel on a roster desperately in need of them.

Winner: John Cena

After one of the best years of his career from an in-ring perspective, John Cena appears poised to return to the main event, squaring off with WWE world heavyweight champion Seth Rollins in a title vs. title match at SummerSlam. At least, that is what booking appeared to suggest Monday night.

And while that might not be a popular decision, there are few who have done more to earn that spot than Cena.

The guy was essentially demoted and took it in stride, relishing the opportunity to work with the likes of Kevin Owens, Neville, Sami Zayn, Cesaro and Rusev while Seth Rollins, Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose headlined shows.

Having consistently delivered four-star matches over the last month, he returns to the main event for a showdown against one of the best workers in the industry at one of the most important shows of the year.

Commentator John "Bradshaw" Layfield has taken to calling Cena "Big Match John," and for good reason. Every time he has had to step up to the plate and hit a home run this year, he has; now he will reap the rewards.

Even if he fails and loses to Rollins, Cena deserves the chance to headline SummerSlam in a match of such importance.

Winners: Dean Ambrose and Luke Harper

It was refreshing to see two of the most talented workers on the roster back in the ring and involved in something meaningful.

Ambrose, arguably the most popular star on the roster, was left off Battleground, wandering around the midcard in the weeks leading up to the show. Harper has been persona non grata since WrestleMania, appearing infrequently outside of a brief reunion with Erick Rowan.

Now, the old-school style workers return to the spotlight as new elements to the rivalry between Roman Reigns and Bray Wyatt. Whether that means they will be part of some grand SummerSlam match remains to be seen, but for now it gives them something to do and keeps them in the public eye, rather than working with glorified jobbers like Bo Dallas and Jack Swagger.
