WWE Battleground 2015: Superstars Who Gained the Most in Defeat

Aaron BowerJul 21, 2015

Defeat doesn't always have to be the worst thing in the world, and the losers at Battleground all take contrasting fortunes forward with them towards SummerSlam.

Of all the losers on the main card, there are some who may struggle to pick themselves up from their own individual reverse. But some will have gained plenty from the loss and will be able to look forward with cautious optimism.

Here are the men and women who gained the most from their respective losses at Battleground.

The New Day

Although they failed to regain their WWE Tag Team Championships at the first attempt, there's still plenty to be optimistic about for The New Day moving forward.

The biggest positive, for them at least, is that right now there appears to be very little in the way of credible challengers for the tag titles.

They're very much at the head of the queue still, and with the witty Xavier Woods fronting up the group effectively as the creative mouthpiece, they are slowly growing as a heel stable by the week.

Throw in the fact that their bout with The Prime Time Players at Battleground was solid enough, and it looks like they'll get the chance to go round again and challenge at SummerSlam.

And after the work they've put in as a trio to establish themselves as the biggest heel tag team in WWE, that's richly deserved.

Sasha Banks

It was inevitable that Sasha Banks was going to put in a strong performance at Battleground.

After all, she is the current NXT Women's champion and judging by her recent efforts on that brand, a poor debut on the main roster just wasn't going to happen.

But it's not perhaps her actual performance inside the ring that made her gain so much from defeat, but more the way the end of the match was booked.

The fact that it was Brie Bella who took the loss to Charlotte as opposed to Banks means that both newcomers were made to look strong at Battleground.

Charlotte can inevitably take plenty of positives for a win on debut, but for Banks, the fact she wasn't pinned means that she could move forward from her debut with a clean slate still.

Roman Reigns

Although he came up short to Bray Wyatt, the quality and excitement of Roman Reigns' match at Battleground means he has plenty to build on moving forward.

It was arguably the standout bout of the entire night, sharing top billing with John Cena vs. Kevin Owens for that particular accolade.

Reigns' performance in that match was one of his best in recent months, and he's slowly returning to the style of wrestling that made him such a big hit with The Shield. He's becoming more and more aggressive, and more and more varied once again, which makes him a pleasure to watch.

The fact that we were subsequently teased The Shield vs. The Wyatt Family version 2.0 (albeit with a member less each) on Raw also shows that the loss hasn't done Reigns too much damage.

In fact, he can move forward after a stellar bout with Wyatt in his first real feud that feels right in months.
