Fresh Backstage WWE Rumors 👊

Modern-Day Dream Matches 💭

Most Likely Backlash Heel/Face Turns 🎭
WWE reportedly always planned for Gunther to quickly win the World Heavyweight Championship back from Jey Uso before entering into a program with Goldberg.
According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (h/t WrestleTalk), WWE had already decided when it had Uso beat Gunther for the world title at WrestleMania 41 that he would drop it back to Gunther after a short reign.
Meltzer added that while he is unsure if the original plan always called for Gunther to win it back on the June 9 episode of Raw, it was always supposed to happen before Gunther's match against Goldberg at Saturday Night's Main Event on July 12.
The stage for an eventual Gunther vs. Goldberg match was initially set last October at Bad Blood when Gunther cut a heel promo on Goldberg, who was seated in the first row.
It was announced shortly thereafter that Goldberg would have his retirement match in WWE and 2025, and it was widely assumed Gunther would be his opponent.
The Ring General lost the world title to Uso at WrestleMania 41, which made for a memorable moment, but Gunther was victorious in his rematch several weeks later.
Goldberg confronted Gunther this week on Raw and challenged him to a title match at SNME, and it wasn't long before WWE made the Hall of Famer's retirement match official.
Knight Reportedly Has Support for Move to Raw
Some in WWE are reportedly pushing for the possibility of former United States champion LA Knight switching brands.
According to WrestleVotes (h/t Steve Carrier of Ringside News), "more than a handful of people" in the company have advocated for Knight to go from SmackDown to Raw on a full-time basis due to the belief that it could help refresh the product.
Despite that, Meltzer (h/t Carrier) followed up with a report that while Knight will be making appearances on Raw, there aren't currently plans in place for him to go from SmackDown to Raw permanently.
At Money in the Bank, Knight came close to winning the men's Money in the Bank ladder match on multiple occasions, only to be foiled by Seth Rollins and his henchmen Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed.
Given the events of MITB, Knight showed up on Raw and cost Breakker in his King of the Ring qualifying match last week. Reed and Breakker retaliated against Knight in his KOTR qualifier on the next episode of SmackDown, and then Knight was back again this week on Raw to cost Reed.
Knight is clearly embroiled in a rivalry with Rollins' group, which is part of Raw, and that likely means fans will be seeing plenty of Knight on the red brand in the coming weeks.
While there is technically a brand split, WWE doesn't adhere strictly to it, which allows for Raw and SmackDown Superstars to cross over quite often.
That isn't necessarily a bad thing since it helps keep both shows fresh with new faces showing up from time to time.
Some in AEW Reportedly Believe Danielson Will Wrestle Again
Following his appearance this week at Arena Mexico, there is reportedly belief within AEW that Bryan Danielson will wrestle again at some point.
Wednesday's episode of Dynamite emanated from Arena Mexico, and several matches were also taped for a future Ring of Honor vs. CMLL Global Wars show. As part of the taping, Danielson saved Blue Panther from an attack, and he even got physical.
According to Fightful Select (h/t Carrier), the fact that Danielson took a back bump in the melee solidified the belief of many in WWE that he will get back in the ring again, even if it isn't on a full-time basis.
Danielson, 44, has not wrestled since WrestleDream back in October when he dropped the AEW World Championship to Jon Moxley.
The American Dragon won the title from Swerve Strickland at All In last August, which led to a storyline that Danielson would retire upon losing the title.
In an interview with Fightful (h/t Andrew Ravens of Newsweek) back in December, Danielson gave himself a "50-50" chance of ever wrestling again, noting that he wants to avoid neck surgery.
During a recent appearance on the Daly Migs Show (h/t Felix Upton of Ringside News), Danielson said he isn't currently cleared to wrestle and doesn't know if he ever will again.
Danielson has little left to prove, having held world titles in WWE, AEW and ROH, but he is undoubtedly among the best of all time between the ropes, and fans would surely love to see him back even if only on occasion.
