7 WWE Predictions Leading to SummerSlam 2025
SummerSlam being two nights for the first time ever starting with the 2025 installment means WWE must have a star-studded card and an exciting build in store.
In the weeks since WrestleMania 41, the company has managed to keep Raw and SmackDown engaging enough, but it's clear more can be done to make matters more interesting. That can be accomplished through multiple major developments leading to SummerSlam, starting at Money in the Bank on June 7.
In addition to the unpredictable outcomes to this year's Money in the Bank Ladder matches, fans also have Night of Champions on June 28, the next edition of Saturday Night's Main Event on July 12 and the return of the all-women's premium live event Evolution on July 13 to look forward to.
Tension being teased within the ranks of various factions could lead to a betrayal or two ahead of the August extravaganza, while championships are virtually guaranteed to change hands.
With John Cena running rampant as Undisputed WWE champion, Cody Rhodes being back in the fold, more potential call-ups from NXT coming and various marquee matches rumored, the possibilities for WWE's 2025 summer season are endless.
These seven predictions would ensure that the road to SummerSlam is as compelling as possible.
Roman Reigns Returns to Exact Revenge on Seth Rollins' New Crew
1 of 7In the most predictable prediction of them all, fans should expect Roman Reigns the make his presence felt on WWE TV again sooner rather than later.
Reigns was last seen on the post-WrestleMania Raw when he and CM Punk were victims of an attack led by Paul Heyman's newest clients, Seth Rollins and Bron Breakker. Punk has resurfaced to target the group, but Reigns' return remains a mystery.
Now that Heyman has recruited Bronson Reed into his newly-formed alliance, Punk will need backup in the form of The Tribal Chief sometime this summer. Although a tag team match would make the most sense, it's entirely possible Reigns returns on his own accord so he can settle his score with Rollins and company himself.
Money in the Bank would be an ideal time for him to come back with Rollins competing in the men's Money in the Bank Ladder match so Reigns can cost him the opportunistic briefcase. That would set the stage for something with Reigns and Rollins or another member of the faction at SummerSlam.
Reigns vs. Rollins is a WrestleMania-worthy attraction and it'd be acceptable for that to be saved until then, but Reigns first having to overcome either Breakker or Reed would be an excellent use of him for SummerSlam season.
Jacob Fatu Breaks Away from Solo Sikoa and JC Mateo
2 of 7WWE was already planting seeds of dissension between Jacob Fatu and Solo Sikoa well before WrestleMania 41, but Sikoa taking a backseat to Fatu becoming the United States champion has simply expedited the expected split.
Sikoa bringing in JC Mateo without consulting Fatu was another sign that they're on the verge of going their separate ways. That was made even more obvious on the May 30 edition of SmackDown when Sikoa and Mateo inadvertently prevented Fatu from qualifying for the men's Money in the Bank Ladder match.
WWE can't wait much longer to pull the trigger on Fatu breaking away from Sikoa and Mateo, and it's important that he be the one to make that choice instead of Sikoa and Mateo making it for him.
Fatu has a slew of potential challengers waiting in the wings, including Damian Priest. After he gets past Priest, Mateo could very well be the one to take the title from Fatu with an assist from Sikoa to build toward that in time for SummerSlam, especially since that wouldn't need anything tangible at stake.
Fatu is about to become one of the biggest babyfaces on SmackDown, but only after he severs ties with his Bloodline brethren.
Becky Lynch Wins the Women's Intercontinental Championship
3 of 7The ongoing rivalry between Becky Lynch and Lyra Valkyria has been one of the best things to happen to WWE's women's division on the main roster in ages, and thankfully, they appear to be no closer to their bad blood being over after their latest explosive segment on Monday's Raw.
Valkyria shockingly defeated Lynch in clean fashion in a show-stealer at Backlash to retain the title, but much like when they first faced off in October 2023 for the NXT Women's Championship, it wasn't completely decisive. The Man has used that as her justification for a rematch at Money in the Bank, where she can never again challenge for the championship as long as Valkyria holds it if she loses.
To ensure the fierce feud continues, Lynch must capture the coveted title on that show—ideally by nefarious means.
That would effectively put Valkyria back in chase mode for a bit and create the need for one more match at Evolution, where they can pay off their program in some sort of a stipulation match with Valkyria finally scoring a definitive win over the former WrestleMania headliner.
Raw's women's midcard scene should only get more exciting with the additions of Roxanne Perez and Stephanie Vaquer to the roster as well.
Gunther Retires Goldberg at Saturday Night's Main Event
4 of 7Following Jey Uso's win at Logan Paul at Saturday Night's Main Event, it's now official that he'll be defending the World Heavyweight Championship against Gunther on the June 9 edition of Raw.
Gunther getting the belt back wouldn't be the worst call, but there's no obvious path for him with the rest of Raw's main-event scene occupied until SummerSlam. The only logical opponent for him on that show is the returning Goldberg, who he had a heated altercation with at Bad Blood in Atlanta last October.
All signs point to Gunther being Goldberg's final opponent. They should match up well in the ring and Gunther can get the best possible match out of the 58-year-old WCW legend.
SummerSlam originally looked like the place to book the bout, at least until the next installment of Saturday Night's Main Event on July 12 was announced for Atlanta. Given all of the history he has there from his time in both pro wrestling and football, it's only appropriate that be where he has his retirement match.
Goldberg should cost Gunther the World Heavyweight title against Uso, lose a hard-fought battle to The Ring General at Saturday Night's Main Event and get one last standing ovation from the audience in attendance.
Giulia Wins the Women's United States Championship
5 of 7Giulia's NXT stint was short yet memorable. She made an immediate impact upon joining the division late last year, secured the NXT Women's Championship in a matter of months and got called up just in time for the post-WrestleMania Raw.
She has since been traded to SmackDown, where she quickly qualified for the women's Money in the Bank Ladder match. Being a part of such a star-studded match will be a big endorsement of her skills, but more importantly, it's who she beat to earn that opportunity.
In the Triple Threat qualifying match, Giulia scored the winning fall over Zelina Vega, the current Women's United States champion. WWE reminded viewers of that when Giulia confronted Vega backstage following Vega's victory over Alba Fyre on the May 30 SmackDown.
Giulia winning Money in the Bank this early into her main roster run would be massive, but not likely. Instead, it's far more realistic for her to steal the star-spangled prize from Vega in the not-too-distant future.
Vega's renewed push as of late has been admirable, but she so far hasn't been able to connect with crowds despite largely being booked strong. WWE might have to pull the plug on her reign on the sooner side and The Beautiful Madness would be the perfect person to do it.
Finn Bálor Targets Dominik Mysterio's Intercontinental Championship
6 of 7Jacob Fatu, Solo Sikoa and JC Mateo aren't the only ones dealing with drama in WWE at the moment.
The turmoil within The Judgment Day never seems to end, even after Rhea Ripley and Damian Priest were exiled at last year's SummerSlam. These days, Finn Bálor is keen on stirring the pot between Dominik Mysterio and Liv Morgan by inviting Roxanne Perez into the group' dealings and causing a rift between the two.
Prior to WrestleMania 41, Bálor grew jealous of Mysterio's organic rise as well as Morgan essentially taking over the leader of Judgment Day. Now that Mysterio is the Intercontinental champion, he won't rest until he has that title in his possession.
It's unknown if Mysterio and Morgan will branch off from the group as babyfaces or if anyone actually has to turn in this scenario, but Bálor betraying Mysterio is undoubtedly inevitable ahead of an anticipated match at SummerSlam with the gold up for grabs.
The Judgment Day could be on its last legs, unless Bálor is the sole Superstar removed and he returns to his roots as a fan favorite. That would make the revival of his Demon persona much more plausible.
Nick Aldis Returns to the Ring to Face Randy Orton
7 of 7When Kevin Owens announced he was injured and would be forced to miss WrestleMania 41, the first name fans thought of as a replacement opponent for Randy Orton was none other than Nick Aldis.
Orton laid out the SmackDown general manager with his patented RKO soon after Aldis took the job in late 2023, and again the night Aldis informed Orton he might have to miss 'Mania with Owens sidelined. There was even a tease for Orton vs. Aldis on the subsequent SmackDown, but Orton's open challenge was ultimately accepted by then-TNA World champion Joe Hendry instead.
The Viper went on to unsuccessfully challenge John Cena for the Undisputed WWE Championship at Backlash in his hometown of St. Louis, during which he planted Aldis with yet another RKO.
It's more a matter of when than if Orton and Aldis collide, and with Orton not having been seen on WWE TV since his Backlash loss, he should face repercussions from Aldis upon his return to television that set up a SummerSlam clash.
It wouldn't have to be anything other than a one-off for Aldis in the ring, but as a former TNA World champion and NWA Worlds Heavyweight champion, he's proved he's worthy of the WWE spotlight.
A debut match against a star the caliber of Orton would put him in prime position to shine, regardless of the outcome.
