What's Next for John Cena, Cody Rhodes, More After WWE Saturday Night's Main Event?
The latest edition of Saturday Night’s Main Event is in the books, and it’s fair to say it was an eventful night for WWE.
Bronson Reed made his return, attacked CM Punk, and joined forces with Seth Rollins, Bron Breakker, and Paul Heyman. The Australian wrestler has been out of action since he sustained a foot injury at Survivor Series: WarGames in November.
However, the biggest headline of the night was undoubtedly Cody Rhodes’ long-awaited return after his loss to John Cena at WrestleMania 42. The American Nightmare issued a challenge to end the night that will factor into plans for Money in the Bank in two weeks.

Most Likely Backlash Heel/Face Turns 🎭
With that in mind, let’s delve into what’s next for some of the top superstars from this weekend’s card.
Sami Zayn vs. Seth Rollins
Sami Zayn has been on a collision course with Rollins since the Apr. 28 episode of WWE Raw.
In fact, one could argue that tension has been brewing between them since last year when the former Intercontinental champion sided with Roman Reigns again. Their friction and history together have contributed to a great storyline, and it’s only a matter of time before we see them compete in a one-on-one match.
Reed’s reemergence was possibly a clever way to write Punk off television for now and advance this feud. Money in the Bank seems like the clear choice, but we’ll have to wait and see where this match will materialize.
Damian Priest vs. Jacob Fatu
After his win over Drew McIntyre, Damian Priest would logically continue to seek championship gold.
After all, The Archer of Infamy had set his sights on the WWE United States Championship at Backlash. At the event, his heated rivalry with McIntyre sidetracked him, forcing him to contend with his WrestleMania opponent first.
The ending of their steel cage match seemed to suggest that he’s done with The Scottish Warrior for now, which lines up with recent reports about his status. According to Fightful Select, McIntyre is set to take some time off.
In the meantime, this would allow Priest to climb the ranks on SmackDown and challenge Jacob Fatu for the U.S. title.
Jey Uso vs. Gunther
Jey Uso successfully defended the WWE World Heavyweight Championship against Logan Paul, which means Gunther is in line for a rematch.
During the May 12 episode of Raw, the 37-year-old revealed that he would take on the winner of their match at Saturday Night’s Main Event. WWE later confirmed that the match would take place on June 9, the Monday after Money in the Bank.
The announcement made his defense against Paul feel predictable, but setting up two challengers was also an effective way to show that Uso has a bigger target on his back now. With the threat of a cash-in and Rollins’ new faction looming, Main Event Jey has the odds stacked against him again.
Cody Rhodes and Jey Uso vs. John Cena and Logan Paul
Conversely, Uso has dance partners set for the next premium live event, where he will team up with a familiar face.
Rhodes returned during the main event to fend off Cena and help his former tag team partner retain his title. Afterward, the second-generation star challenged Paul and the undisputed WWE champion to a tag match at Money in the Bank.
It was initially unclear when he would return or how he would address his loss and everything that transpired while he was away. Obviously, we expect him to attempt to regain his mantle and end Cena’s reign of terror, but it’s a bit too soon.
The 48-year-old still has 23 appearances left on his farewell tour. So, WWE will likely stretch this feud out, but this tag match is a great solution for now.
