Cardinals Beat Chargers, Box Score Stats, Highlights for Jeremiyah Love, Herbert, MHJ, Top Players

The Arizona Cardinals pulled off the biggest upset of Week 1 after they downed the Los Angeles Chargers 26-14 on Sunday.

The Chargers came into the game as 8.5-point favorites, per FanDuel Sportsbook, but the rebuilding Cardinals got their season started off right with a big win over a team looking to compete for a Super Bowl.

Jacoby Brissett spent his offseason trying to convince the Cardinals he was worth starting quarterback money, and he proved early on that he had a strong argument.

He led Arizona down the field on its first offensive drive, and rookie running back Jeremiyah Love found the end zone for his first NFL touchdown.

The Chargers answered on the following drive as Omarion Hampton took one in from eight yards out on a tough run.

The second quarter was filled with errors from the Chargers, as they had a fumble that led to a field goal for the Cardinals before turning it over on downs on their next drive. Arizona went into halftime leading by six.

After a field goal put the Cardinals up 16-7, a defensive pass interference helped set up a touchdown for the Chargers on a catch from Ladd McConkey.

Mistakes mounted again in the fourth quarter for the Chargers. A blocked punt set up a touchdown for the Cardinals, and Justin Herbert threw an interception on the following drive.

After the Chargers turned it over on downs again, the Cardinals notched a field goal to make it a 26-14 game with just over two minutes to play, and that sealed the deal.

Arizona perhaps wasn't viewed as a playoff team coming into the season, but the Cardinals certainly looked the part in Mike LaFleur's first game as head coach.

Meanwhile, the Chargers have some reflecting to do after the early-season upset.
