Most Likely Backlash Heel/Face Turns 🎭
Expect to start seeing Travis Scott on WWE programming in the near future.
PWInsider.com's Mike Johnson (via Felix Upton of Ringside News) reported the creative team is weighing a tag match in which Scott would team up with John Cena at Money in the Bank. Cody Rhodes would presumably be one of the combatants on the other side.
Johnson played down the likelihood of WWE pitting Cena against CM Punk on June 7 at Intuit Dome in Inglewood, California.
Punk and Cena of course have history at Money in the Bank. The Straight-Edge Superstar kicked off the "Summer of Punk" on that show in 2011 by beating Cena and walking out with the title.
But holding off on that match makes sense because it could anchor a much bigger stadium show such as SummerSlam. The build might feel a little rushed, too, when we're less than a month out from Money in the Bank.
Having Cena tag up with Scott also works narratively since the music star involved himself at WrestleMania 41 and had a hand in Rhodes losing the title. Whether this is something fans want to see is another matter.
Cody Rhodes' Return Reportedly 'on the Horizon'
Speaking of Rhodes and Money in the Bank, WrestleVotes Radio (via PWMania.com) reported the former champion's comeback "is indeed on the horizon, with the expectation from within that it will likely take place prior to the Money in the Bank PLE."
The report added that "Rhodes will resume his position as a top priority player, being a focal point of TV throughout the summer."
The American Nightmare has remained on the sidelines since WrestleMania. He's getting a well-earned break after having been one of the faces of the company for more than a year.
The WrestleVotes Radio report dovetails with what Johnson reported.
Rhodes has unfinished business with Cena. When he does return, he won't have already moved on to a new feud. A rematch in some form, whether it's a singles bout or a tag team affair, is the logical course for his first appearance back on a premium live event.
Liv Morgan Reportedly Will Be Back 'Very Soon'
Liv Morgan hasn't competed since successfully defending the women's tag titles with Raquel Rodriguez against Gigi Dolin and Tatum Paxley on the April 22 edition of NXT.
Over the last month, Morgan has been away on the production for Bad Lieutenant: Tokyo. Johnson reported Friday she has completed her filming commitments and "is expected back on WWE programming very soon."
The two-time world champion's layoff hasn't been that long in the grand scheme of things, but it's less than ideal when one half of the tag titleholders is out of the picture for multiple weeks.
Depending on what "very soon" means, Morgan might be back with enough time to build toward a Money in the Bank match.
