Most Likely Backlash Heel/Face Turns 🎭
Despite comments The Rock made about a potential Cody Rhodes heel turn following WrestleMania 41, WWE is reportedly planning to move forward with Rhodes as a top babyface.
According to Fightful Select (h/t Steve Carrier of Ringside News), WWE has creative plans in place for Rhodes as a babyface "throughout the year," and many within the company are against the idea of turning Cody heel due to his popularity and strong merchandise sales.
Prior to Elimination Chamber, The Rock returned to WWE programming and made Rhodes a proposal, asking him to sell his soul.
Rhodes had until Elimination Chamber to give his answer, and when he refused, John Cena shocked the wrestling world by attacking Rhodes at The Rock's behest and turning heel.
During an appearance on the Pat McAfee Show after Cena beat Rhodes for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 41, The Rock noted that WWE could always go back to the proposal of Cody selling his soul, leading to a heel turn down the line:
Fightful reported that Rhodes was indeed pitched the idea of turning heel already, but the decision was made for Cena to turn instead.
Since his loss at WrestleMania, Rhodes has not appeared on WWE programming, but WrestleVotes (h/t Subhojeet Mukherjee of Ringside News) reported that he is expected back before next month's Money in the Bank premium live event.
With a heel turn reportedly not in WWE's plans, Rhodes feels like the top candidate to beat Cena for the title at some point in 2025.
WWE Reportedly Planning Charlotte vs. Cargill at Evolution
Following a tease last week on SmackDown, WWE is reportedly planning a big match between Charlotte Flair and Jade Cargill.
According to WrestleVotes (h/t Carrier), Flair vs. Cargill is in the works for the Evolution premium live event, which is rumored for July.
WWE has yet to make an official announcement regarding Evolution, but rumors have run rampant, and PWInsider Elite (h/t Cultaholic.com's Aidan Gibbons) reported this week that it is expected to take place on July 13 in Atlanta.
The first Evolution took place back in 2018, and it was the first and only all-women's premium live event in WWE history.
Charlotte cut a promo last week on SmackDown about her WrestleMania 41 loss to Tiffany Stratton, and she stormed out of the ring amid a negative reaction from the fans.
As she made her way up the ramp, Cargill emerged, leading to a tense stare-down between them.
Cargill made her in-ring debut for WWE at the 2024 Royal Rumble, and she spent much of the next year in a tag team with Bianca Belair.
However, since returning from injury in March, Jade has been on her own, and she defeated Naomi in a singles match at WrestleMania.
Facing Charlotte at Evolution would be one of the biggest matches of Cargill's career thus far, and a win would perhaps elevate her to the top of the women's division.
Matt Hardy Says Hardy Boyz Won't Be at AAA Triplemanía Regia
While several TNA stars are scheduled for AAA Triplemanía Regia on June 15, Matt and Jeff Hardy are not among them.
Speaking this week on his Extreme Life of Matt Hardy Podcast (h/t WrestleTalk), Matt said he and Jeff already have bookings the weekend of Triplemanía Regia, so they won't be able to take part in the event.
However, Matt confirmed that he and Jeff were asked to do Triplemanía Regia, and that they would like to work in AAA in the future, and potentially win the AAA World Tag Team Championship.
SI.com's Jon Alba received confirmation from TNA this week that TNA world champion Joe Hendry, X-Division champion Moose and TNA tag team champions Nic and Ryan Nemeth will all be part of Triplemanía Regia in Monterrey, Mexico.
TNA's involvement makes plenty of sense due to the fact that WWE announced during WrestleMania 41 weekend that it had purchased AAA.
WWE already had an existing, official partnership with TNA, and AAA can now be an extension of it.
The WWE and TNA partnership has led to some Hardy Boyz appearances in NXT, and that may only be the tip of the iceberg in terms of Matt and Jeff doing crossovers.
The Hardys are among the most legendary tag teams of all time, so it comes as little surprise that they are in such high demand even with Matt being 50 and Jeff being 47 years old.
