Buy or Sell Latest WWE Backlash 2025 Rumors, Goldberg and Ronda Rousey Returns, More
The pro wrestling rumor mill has yet to slow up despite WrestleMania fully being in the rearview mirror now.
In fact, one could even get away with arguing that the mill has actually bumped it up a notch in recent weeks.
It’s not just ‘Mania repercussions, either, though spice around names like The Rock continuing to pop up certainly helps.
No, there’s also plenty of typical pre-PLE drama to consider as WWE heads toward Backlash. There, it’s a mix of ‘Mania continuation and completely new feuds and stories that, combined, make it feel like pro wrestling is heading into a new season of sorts.
This week, we’ve got major return rumors, planned title feuds and more. Here’s a look at the most notable rumblings and whether fans should buy or sell on each.
Ronda Rousey Return?
1 of 5
The Rumor
One of the big-name returns still making the rumor mill? Ronda Rousey. According to Wrestling Observer (h/t Randall Ortman of Cageside Seats), WWE is still interested in bringing her back.
Reaction
No kidding, right? WWE loves its major names capable of bringing in massive audiences and Rousey is one of the top possible they could get. Fans haven’t really seen her in a wrestling ring since 2023, minus a couple of random non-WWE event one-offs, but her drawing power certainly remains.
Buy or Sell?
Easiest buy of the week. Rousey was the shocking, better-than-expected outsider long before Logan Paul was. She’d add some must-see drama to the women’s division and return to a WWE far different than when she left it.
Info on Jey Uso vs. Logan Paul
2 of 5
The Rumor
WWE went a strange route with Logan Paul attacking Jey Uso after a Raw broadcast. Now, we might know why—according to Wrestling Observer Radio (h/t Ortman), the attack was all about WWE attempting to “surprise people” while pushing the moment via social media.
Reaction
This one isn’t all that shocking because we’ve seen WWE get creative over the past year by having major moments occur off broadcast. Perhaps the most notable was fan footage capturing Kevin Owens beating down Cody Rhodes behind the scenes.
Buy or Sell?
Buy…but with a problem. This type of surprise is really powerful when it’s someone like Owens or Rhodes. It’s diluted quite a bit when it’s Paul, though, to the point it feels like a gimmick. He’s a social media star first and foremost and some of the authenticity feels a little lost in the process.
Cody Rhodes Update?
3 of 5
The Rumor
Are fans close to a Cody Rhodes return already? According to PW Insider (h/t Ortman), there was at least one pitch on the table to have him come back at Backlash.
Reaction
It’s pretty hard to see Rhodes coming back so soon. He’s not a part-timer, but absence might make fans’ hearts grow even fonder. Backlash has John Cena and Randy Orton in the top spot and big names like Gunther, Becky Lynch and Dominik Mysterio in key roles. It simply doesn’t need him, nor it.
Buy or Sell?
Sell on Rhodes being at Backlash. Unless WWE goes for a stunning heel turn sort of thing (spoiler: it won’t), he feels far more likely to be off-screen until around Money in the Bank, which will start setting the table for whatever direction they go with at SummerSlam.
Goldberg Return?
4 of 5
The Rumor
The big-return rumors aren’t done, by the way. According to WrestleVotes (h/t Ortman), Goldberg’s name has come up in internal discussions at WWE recently.
Reaction
It’s been a pretty widely held agreement amongst fans that Goldberg would be back sooner or later to have one last retirement match. Fitting him in has been tricky though in an era where PLEs get fiveish matches and the main-event scene is usually deeply connected by long-running storylines.
Buy or Sell?
Buy. Goldberg’s name probably comes up often when discussing PLE cards. The hiccup is timing and opponent. But a non-big-three PLE like Backlash would certainly make some sense.
Goldberg's Final Opponent?
5 of 5
The Rumor
On the Goldberg front, who would actually get his retirement match? Fightful Select (h/t Ortman) aligns with a popular fan theory, noting that Gunther has been discussed as his retirement-match opponent.
Reaction
Fans have wondered about this one long before Gunther ever lost his title. Presuming Goldberg will go out on his back like most legends while putting over the next generation, Gunther is the guy who makes the most sense as an in-ring matchup, plus could use the rub.
Buy or Sell?
Buy. This might be easier to do now that Gunther doesn’t have a title around his waist, too. A one-off over the summer that slingshots Gunther back into the main-event title scene would make a lot of sense.
