Dominik Mysterio, Solo Sikoa and Most Likely Heel, Face Turns at WWE Backlash 2025

Kevin BergeMay 8, 2025

WrestleMania 41 was a mixed bag for WWE, delivering big moments as well as some disappointing developments.

Saturday's Backlash needs to capitalize on the biggest stories in WWE while also taking major stories in fresh directions to keep fans engaged in the product.

One of the best ways to deliver those moments is a surprise heel or face turn that can change the course of key talent.

Dominik Mysterio is teasing a dramatic change as fans begin to rally around him as intercontinental champion.

Solo Sikoa and Jacob Fatu seem poised to collide in a battle for control of the business, but one will need to switch sides in order to feud.

This is just the beginning of the possible major story turns that WWE could deliver this weekend.

The following are the most likely heel and face turns at Backlash.

Face: Dominik Mysterio

Is there a more obvious rising young babyface for WWE to rally around than Dominik Mysterio? Once the most hated man in the company, he has built a fanbase through his steady hard work.

In many ways, he is emulating his uncle, Eddie Guerrero, by becoming a fun-to-love bad guy who always finds a way to win.

If he turns on Finn Bálor, which looks more likely by the day, fans will root for the intercontinental champion.

The Prince may turn first, but either way The Judgment Day will be pushed in two different directions. It is hard to imagine Mysterio does not get a full push to the side of the good guys.

The 28-year-old does not need to change much, just make fun of heels instead of the faces while cheating to beat the bad guys.

This could lead to Liv Morgan turning face as well and staying with Dirty Dom, but that is a less certain situation as she could also choose Bálor.

Heel: Zoey Stark

This looks like a shot in the dark on the surface, but two major factors on WWE TV are teasing a Zoey Stark return and heel turn.

The last time fans saw the 31-year-old on WWE TV regularly, she was in an awkward angle with Shayna Baszler and Sonya Deville as a part of Pure Fusion Collective.

While all three were technically heels, but their role was so unclear that they seemed to waffle depending on who they feuded with.

Since the releases of both Deville and Baszler, Stark is left with no direction while healthy and ready to perform.

Becky Lynch recently made a shock return and turned heel by attacking her former protege, Lyra Valkyria.

This sets the stage for The Man to need a new understudy, someone she knows will back her up and wants what she wants in the business.

Stark was set up as a possible contender for the Women's Intercontinental Championship during the tournament to crown the first champion but lost in the semifinals.

She could make for an interesting ally and eventual rival for the gold The Man is likely to steal from Valkyria.

Stark helping Lynch beat The Valkyrie would set her up as Lynch's biggest supporter and the heavy who can keep The Man untouchable as champion.

This alliance makes enough sense that it stands out as a serious option without Stark appearing on television often in the past few months.

Face: Solo Sikoa

Jacob Fatu and Solo Sikoa once looked inseparable, but the popularity of the former has left the latter in the background.

It has to be eating away at Sikoa that Fatu is holding the United States Championship while he could not win the undisputed WWE title.

A collision between these two is inevitable, but who turns on who? While Fatu would likely get more fan support, Sikoa makes the most sense going back to teaming with his brothers, Jey and Jimmy Uso, down the line.

The Samoan Werewolf is an imposing monster who could rally Tama Tonga and Tonga Loa around him once both are healthy again.

Fatu could also look to bring in other family members such as Hikuleo or Lance Anoa'i.

This is the angle that can reignite the Bloodline story, and it starts with Sikoa playing a role in Fatu at least almost losing the U.S. Championship.

If Sikoa makes a mistake during the Fatal 4-Way clash at Backlash, Fatu is likely to lay him out rather than ask any questions.

The aftermath can help both men remain relevant for the rest of the year and likely much longer.

Heel: R-Truth

It may be silly to focus any angle in WWE today on R-Truth, but his connection with John Cena is too strong to ignore.

The 53-year-old has teased for weeks that he will back The Last Real Champion no matter what because he is his "childhood hero."

To date, though, this has not led to Truth taking action beyond speaking to Cena and Randy Orton.

However, things could heat up if Cena needs help at Backlash. Truth playing a key role in protecting the undisputed WWE champion would play much better than another appearance from Travis Scott.

It's a comedy angle on the surface, but Truth does deserve a chance to pay off his story with Cena over the course of The GOAT's final year.
