Buy or Sell WrestleMania 41 Rumors on the Rock, Match Order, Surprise Returns, More
It was only a matter of time before a tidal wave of buzz erupted from the pro wrestling rumor mill just before WrestleMania 41.
Much remains unknown about the major two-night event, including the cemented match card order for both nights, let alone what matches might still get added to the mix.
The latest offerings from the rumor mill go much bigger than that, too. There are rumblings about major returns and a mention of a guy named The Rock, too.
An annual spectacle, the pre-WrestleMania rumor mill contains a little bit of everything. To help fans keep pace, here’s a look at the most notable buzz making the rounds right now and whether they should buy or sell on each.
WrestleMania Openers?
1 of 4
The Rumor
First, the big match-card items. According to WrestleVotes Radio (h/t Randall Ortman of Cageside Seats), Gunther vs. Jey Uso will open Night 1, while IYO SKY vs. Bianca Belair vs. Rhea Ripley will open Night 2.
Reaction
WWE loves its title matches or huge names, if not both, as show-opening acts. This is a natural result of splitting things into two nights and only having so many matches on each card. Letting a big match that just missed on the night-ending main event open while the crowd is super-hot is a reward in itself, while saving cooldown matches so fans can recover just before the main events.
Buy or Sell?
Easy buy. The Gunther-Uso feud wasn’t sniffing the main event but is a great way to get the crowd hot. With the other women’s title match (Tiffany Stratton vs. Charlotte Flair) likely on Night 1, giving the spotlight to the Triple Threat to start Sunday’s show makes too much sense.
Rusev Return to WWE?
2 of 4
The Rumor
It didn’t take long for the Rusev rumors to start. According to WrestleVotes Radio (h/t Ortman), he’ll use the name Rusev again, not Miro, and could be “fast-tracked” into things.
Reaction
Rusev coming back after his AEW departure felt inevitable. What’s interesting here is just how fast we’re talking about—might he be the wrestler who responds to Randy Orton’s open challenge, if that’s how things go this weekend for The Viper?
Buy or Sell?
Buy. It always felt like there was unfinished business for Rusev in WWE and he returns to a much different company. It’s downright thrilling to think about how ‘Mania itself could be a launching pad for his run under Triple H.
The Rock Update
3 of 4
The Rumor
About The Rock. According to WrestleVotes Radio (h/t Ortman), some within WWE expect a Rock appearance at WrestleMania.
Reaction
What a wild ride for fans with The Rock. From bizarrely writing himself out of storylines during Raw’s debut on Netflix to showing back up (with Travis Scott??) to be a part of John Cena’s heel turn. It’s just…a lot—and strange.
Buy or Sell?
Easiest buy of the week. Rock isn’t going to miss ‘Mania (and unfortunately, the out-of-place Scott might not, either). Maybe he plays a role in the Cena-Cody Rhodes match in the outright main event. But it could also be something as simple as a backstage segment or in-ring promo after an entrance. Either way, it’s impossible to think he won’t be there.
Big Name Missing WrestleMania?
4 of 4
The Rumor
The inaugural Women's United States Champion could miss ‘Mania. According to Fightful Select (h/t Ortman), there are no plans in place for Chelsea Green at the big event.
Reaction
That’s a wild turn of events for a fan-favorite champion and a relatively new championship, both of which one would think WWE wants to promote as much as possible. The ‘Mania card is stacked, but not enough to think someone like Green can’t defend a title.
Buy or Sell?
An unfortunate buy. WWE has made a few odd choices like this going into the weekend’s show. That apparently includes not letting tag team champions Street Profits have a spot, either. There’s something to be said for brief matches on big cards making everyone look bad, but also something to be said for those stars being outright cut from the two-night program.
