WWE NXT Results: Biggest Winners, Losers and Moments from July 8
With so many quality singles competitors in NXT, it is no wonder that the brand has paid less attention to its tag team division over the last year.
On Wednesday night, that changed, albeit for a single episode as Enzo Amore and Colin Cassady battled The Vaudevillains in a No. 1 contender's match to determine who would next challenge Buddy Murphy and Wesley Blake for the NXT Tag Team Championships.
In the process, they earned themselves Biggest Winners of the Night honors.
In the main event of the evening, the duos delivered an entertaining, engaging match that had fans guessing who would leave victoriously by the time Big Cass exploded into the ring off the hot tag from Amore.
The Vaudevillains scored the victory off a fluke roll-through on a cross-body block off the top rope, earning themselves a shot at the tag titles while taking none of the heat off of their opponents.
That is the definition of a successful and productive match, and now both teams can move ahead, The Vaudevillains looking forward to their title opportunity while Amore and Big Cass continue to gain support and sympathy as they sit just outside the title picture looking in, vengeance and the championships sure to be theirs one day.
On a show dominated in length by the replaying of the Finn Balor and Kevin Owens match from Beast In The East, there was not much in the way of time left for there to be an abundance of winners and losers on this week's show.
Still, there were a handful of men and women who left a mark—positively or negatively—and deserve recognition.
These are the other winners and losers from the July 8 episode of NXT.
Losers: Dana Brooke and Emma
Every time it appears as though Dana and Emma are gaining anything even remotely close to momentum, it is halted before they can make the most of it.
That was the case on Wednesday night as the duo lost a tag team match to Sasha Banks and Charlotte.
The brand's resident mean girls have been on the receiving end of a push that suggests management wants to do something with them, but every time they start to gain a head of steam, Creative inexplicably books them to lose.
Brooke arrived after weeks of vignettes hyping her debut, and Emma underwent a complete character transformation, yet they have both lost high-profile matches that really should have helped elevate them further.
Instead, they served as another roadblock en route to the NXT Women's Championship.
Both figure to remain in position to feud with Banks over the top prize in women's wrestling, but how can fans be expected to believe that they can wrest the title away from The Boss when they have been so inconsistently booked to this point?
Winner: Solomon Crowe
Solomon Crowe made his return to NXT television this week, complete with a new nickname and a victory over Marcus Louis.
But The Little Monster still has quite a ways to go before making up for a disastrous start to his career in the developmental brand.
Crowe is someone who has never really seemed to have the full support of management. Whether it is his look or lack of height (5'10"), he has been let down tremendously by booking since debuting last year. He has lost more than he has won and been denied the chance to develop his character and connect with the audience.
Wednesday's show brought about the opportunity for a fresh start, making Crowe a winner. But it remains to be seen if this is a tease or a real effort to get him over.
Winners: Charlotte and Sasha Banks
The former BFFs not only popped the audience with a tease of their days as a tag team, but they never became so chummy during their performance on Wednesday night that the viewer forgot all of the negative history between them, either.
Their performance in the ring was sharp, the crowd was into it and the post-match interactions, and the announcement of a match between them for the NXT Women's Championship on next week's show gave fans something certain to be awesome to look forward to.
Watching two skilled workers like Banks and Charlotte perform makes their eventual call-up to the main roster that much more anticipated.
