Why Roster Cuts Happened After WM

Sane, Stratton, More Rumors 👂
WWE champion Cody Rhodes expressed his belief Friday that there are still two matches The Rock needs to have before he retires from in-ring competition for good.
During an appearance on Pardon My Take (beginning at the 1:09:50 mark), Rhodes named himself and Roman Reigns as the two opponents The Rock "has to" face at some point:
The American Nightmare noted that he feels there is still a story between himself and The Rock to be finished given everything that has happened between them over the past year.
Rhodes also openly wondered if The Rock vs. Reigns may end up going down as one of the top dream matches that never happened due to "timing."
Last year, Rhodes won the Royal Rumble, but just days later, he seemingly ceded his WrestleMania 40 title match to The Rock, setting the stage for Reigns vs. The Rock.
Rhodes changed his mind shortly thereafter, though, leading The Rock to turn heel and align himself with Reigns.
The Rock and Reigns beat Rhodes and Seth Rollins in the main event of Night 1 of WrestleMania 40 before Cody defeated Reigns for the WWE Championship in the main event of Night 2.
This year, The Rock returned to the fold and offered Rhodes the opportunity to sell him his soul. Rhodes turned down The Final Boss at Elimination Chamber, leading John Cena to turn heel by attacking Rhodes and aligning himself with The Rock.
Rhodes will put his title on the line against Cena at WrestleMania 41, but based on the animosity built up between Cody and The Rock, there would likely be a ton of money in making that match happen at some point.
Getting to The Rock vs. Reigns would require additional build, but they are family members and plenty of fans clearly want to see it happen, so it wouldn't be difficult to get people interested.
Reported Reason for The Rock's Recent WWE Absence
The Rock has not been seen on WWE programming since Elimination Chamber last month, and there is reportedly a specific reason for that.
According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (h/t Cultaholic.com's Aidan Gibbons), The Rock has yet to confirm that he will be able to appear at WrestleMania 41.
Because of that, WWE is reportedly playing it safe by focusing on WWE champion Cody Rhodes and challenger John Cena rather than The Rock.
After Rhodes refused to sell his soul to The Rock at Elimination Chamber, Cena attacked Cody at the behest of The Final Boss, resulting in Cena turning heel for the first time in over 20 years.
A couple of weeks later, Cena explained his actions, noting that he decided to turn his back on the fans because of the way they have treated him over the years.
Cena did not mention The Rock during that promo and he still hasn't, although Rhodes brought him up on this week's episode of Raw during a heated segment.
While Cena declined to give an answer regarding why he joined forces with The Rock, Cody mentioning it could potentially be a sign that WWE is working toward integrating The Rock back into the storyline with WrestleMania quickly approaching.
Street Profits Reportedly Planned for Multi-Team Match at WrestleMania
WWE is reportedly making plans for The Street Profits to defend the WWE Tag Team Championships at WrestleMania 41.
According to Meltzer (h/t Steve Carrier of Ringside News), Montez Ford and Angelo Dawkins are expected to put the titles on the line in a multi-team match on the Grandest Stage of Them All.
Meltzer added that it is "possible if not probable" that DIY, The Motor City Machine Guns, Pretty Deadly and Los Garzas will all challenge The Street Profits at WrestleMania.
The Profits recently beat DIY for the titles, continuing the trend of the tag championships changing hands often on SmackDown in recent months.
The Street Profits, DIY and Motor City Machine Guns have all enjoyed title reigns, while Pretty Deadly and Los Garzas have been firmly in the mix as well.
Last year, at WrestleMania 41, both the WWE Tag Team Championships and World Tag Team Championships were up for grabs in a six-team ladder match.
While it remains to be seen if there will be an added stipulation to a potential tag title match among the SmackDown tag teams, making it a ladder match would undoubtedly bring even more excitement to the bout.
