Video: John Cena Rips WWE Fans in 1st Show Since Historic Heel Turn on Cody Rhodes
After his shocking heel turn at the WWE Elimination Chamber premium live event earlier this month, John Cena finally broke his silence on this week's episode of Monday Night Raw on Netflix.
Cena opened the show to a chorus of boos from the raucous crowd in Brussels, Belgium. Dueling chants of "Let's go Cena!" and "Cena sucks" went on for a while before he even got a chance to speak, following chants of "You sold out!"
When he finally took the microphone, Cena spoke sternly and declared, "For the past 25 years, I've been in an abusive relationship," referring to how the fans have treated him throughout his polarizing career.
After a lengthy promo from Cena announcing his breakup with the fans, Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes came out to confront his WrestleMania 41 opponent.
Cena won the men's Elimination Chamber match to earn a match against Rhodes at WrestleMania 41 next month. After his victory, he surprisingly aligned himself with The Rock and issued a brutal beatdown on Rhodes. It was his first time turning heel since 2003.
This is set to be Cena's last hurrah in the ring before his retirement at the end of this year, and turning his back on the fans was not how anyone expected him to go out. However, it creates an incredible amount of intrigue for his match against Rhodes. Cena will be attempting to become a 17-time world champion, which would break a tie with Ric Flair for the all-time record.
