It's only two years old as a pay-per-view, but Battleground has had its fair share of exciting matches.
Even though the first year was largely a washout in terms of quality bouts, there were still moments of magic tucked away, and last year also provided some exciting matches for fans to remember.
Whether it was a match that brought absolute unpredictability or just had such creative storytelling that fans couldn't help but get excited, there was plenty that made for an exciting match.

Takeaways From SNME 44 ➡️
Here are the best picks from the last two years of Battleground.
The Rhodes Brothers vs. The Shield (2013)
There wasn't a lot to write home about at the first edition of Battleground.
The WWE Championship match between Daniel Bryan and Randy Orton ended in a bizarre no-contest, and there was precious little for fans to get excited about. However, the one real shining light from two years ago had to be a tag team bout which had more than just a win at stake.

Cody Rhodes had been "fired" from WWE in the weeks leading up to his match with brother Goldust against Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins, and Rhodes the elder was also competing for a contract here, too.
However, had The Shield triumphed, both brothers would be fired, and the late great Dusty Rhodes would have lost his job as NXT trainer.
The stakes made this bout at least worth tuning in to, and it featured a couple of plausible and realistic endings as well as some interesting subplots. It lasted just under 14 minutes in length, but there were some great spots inside the ring too, not least the patented three-on-one beating of Goldust by The Shield, which left The Bizarre One laid out at ringside.
Another standout moment was Ambrose's taking a beating from Dusty to level up the numbers game, and the reaction The Rhodes Brothers got when they struck the winning pinfall showed just how interested and invested fans had been in the bout.
The Usos vs. Erick Rowan and Luke Harper (2014)
Pre-show, there was probably a worry that the match detailed below, Seth Rollins' clash against Dean Ambrose, would steal the limelight from the main event.
Well, those fears would have no doubt been erased by an even greater fear that this incredible tag match for the WWE Tag Team Championships simply couldn't be beaten in terms of excitement.
The Usos almost single-handedly held the tag division together at one point last year, but when they clashed with Erick Rowan and Luke Harper, they regularly produced blockbuster bouts, including this one at Battleground.
It was a 2-out-of-3 Falls contest, which meant it got plenty of ring time and had plenty of memorable spots. There were moments like Erick Rowan's phenomenal double superplex on both Uso brothers and the traditional high-flying agility from The Usos, who hurled themselves over the ropes on more than one occasion.
But more than anything, what caught the eye was just the sheer back-and-forth this contest had. It was always going to go to a third and decisive fall, and with the unpredictability levels higher than they were at any point throughout the rest of the night, this match was one of the standout fights of the year.
Dean Ambrose vs. Seth Rollins (2014)
OK, so this technically wasn't a match, as it never actually happened. But it was booked to take place and certainly has to rank as one of the more exciting bouts in the two years of Battleground pay-per-views.
After the incredible split of The Shield just a few months earlier, tensions between Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose had led to a match between the two for Battleground. The excitement levels for the bout were off the scale, and as we know today, this was the starting point for what would eventually become a feud for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.

Ambrose initially attacked Rollins backstage prior to the match after a few weeks of tension between the two, which led to Ambrose's ejection from the arena. Cue Rollins, who emerged to have the referee raise his hand for the victory, then cue Ambrose, who pulled a nice swerve by charging down and taking out Rollins again.
That would have been exciting and satisfying enough, but there was yet more bait-and-switch to follow, arguably the best of the night. Rollins tentatively made his way out back to the parking lot and dismissed his hired security, before The Lunatic Fringe emerged from the trunk of a car and once again assaulted Rollins.
Seth would escape the arena this time, but this was Ambrose at his very best all night long. He's gone on to become one of the most popular stars on the roster since this night, and in terms of delivering a bout and a feud that kept fans on the edge of their seats, this one at Battleground last year had to be one of the best.
You simply didn't know what was going to happen next, and in the crazy world of professional wrestling, that is half the battle in pleasing fans: keeping them in suspense for the next move.
