Seth Rollins vs. Brock Lesnar: Curb Stomp Must Be Used in WWE Battleground Match

Brad JonesJul 7, 2015

In less than two weeks, Seth Rollins will defend his WWE World Heavyweight Championship against Brock Lesnar at Battleground 2015.

With The Beast on a rampage of late, The Architect may find that he needs something special to leave St. Louis with the gold.

After a three-month hiatus, Lesnar returned to the ring last weekend as part of the enjoyable Beast in the East special event. His match against Kofi Kingston may have been short but certainly helped to build excitement for his encounter with Rollins.

Since losing the title at WrestleMania, Lesnar has been on the warpath. As a result, he's perhaps the most popular with crowds that he's ever been. Whether he's rag-dolling J&J Security or taking an axe to an automobile, people love to see him go on a tear.

Lesnar's appetite for destruction has been apparent ever since he returned to WWE in 2012, but it's reached new heights over the past few months.

While The Beast was dominant before, his personal beef with Rollins seems to have lit a new fire under him.

With The Beast looking unbeatable, all signs point toward an end to Rollins' reign at Battleground. However, that might not be the case if The Architect has a trick up his sleeve.

Earlier this year, much was made of the disappearance of Rollins' Curb Stomp from WWE television. Speculation ran rampant as to whether this was because of injury concerns or an issue with advertisers, but the end result was that the world champion was without his trademark finisher.

Rollins has since adopted the Pedigree from his mentor Triple H, and while he doesn't look completely comfortable with the move just yet, it's a fitting replacement.

However, that doesn't mean that the Curb Stomp should be forgotten about entirely.

In WWE, it's rare to see anything but a finishing move end a match. It's easy to see why these techniques are built up as such, but at the same time, it can make the final stretch of any given contest a little predictable. That's where the idea of a "super-finisher" can prove rather compelling.

WWE fans will be familiar with Randy Orton's rarely used punt. International wrestling aficionados will perhaps call to mind Kenta Kobashi's Burning Hammer, which he only used seven times over the course of his career.

These maneuvers can add to the stakes of any match—if a competitor sees fit to use one, it suggests that they see the bout as a must-win scenario. The Curb Stomp deserves to join these ranks.

At this point, it's difficult to say what sort of punishment could realistically drop Lesnar for a three-count. Rollins will have to dig deep for a solution at Battleground, and his former finisher may well be the only thing that can get the job done.
