Brock Lesnar's Retribution on Seth Rollins Should Continue to Be Delayed

Ryan DilbertJul 7, 2015

The moment that Brock Lesnar finally digs his claws into Seth Rollins' flesh is going to be tremendous.

WWE is expertly holding off that act of violence, teasing that we'll see it, only to have the world champ slip into the cracks. The longer the company can stretch out the time in between Rollins wronging Lesnar and The Beast Incarnate exacting revenge, the more explosive that climax becomes.

When Lesnar stormed into Chicago's Allstate Arena for Monday's Raw, he was on the hunt for Rollins.

His grating braggart of a rival had orchestrated an ambush on him a few weeks back. Add that to the fact that Rollins took Lesnar's WWE title in underhanded fashion at WrestleMania, that he Curb Stomped him prior to that and broke his ribs at the Royal Rumble, and little explanation was needed for why this powerhouse wanted so badly to snap Rollins in half.

Paul Heyman promised that the beatings and the suplexes would start in Chicago.

They didn't. And that's the right move.

Unlike with Ryback's title feud, WWE has chosen to keep fans waiting. The Big Guy has already Shell Shocked Big Show and The Miz. He's already been in the ring with both men in recent weeks.

That has the Triple Threat match for the Intercontinental Championship at Battleground already feeling like old hat.

That's far from the truth with Lesnar and Rollins. In the case of the beast versus the fox, Lesnar has never truly had a chance to punish his enemy. He has yet to get a clean shot on him, and that makes for added anticipation going forward.

On Monday's Raw, Lesnar delivered destruction, but of the vehicular variety, not the decimation of Rollins that the audience has been expecting.

A Cadillac acted as Rollins' proxy. With Rollins and J&J Security both waiting in the ring for him armed with ax handles, Lesnar chose to grab a pair of axes and ravage the car.

The Beast Incarnate sliced through the side of the Cadillac, shattered its windows and flung one of its doors into the crowd.

This allowed Lesnar to show off his rage, to remind us of his ferocity and to create one of the year's most lasting images. He did to the car what he wanted to do to Rollins, just as he wiped out Kofi Kingston in Tokyo this weekend rather than do the same to his preferred target.

WWE's current strategy showcases just how fearsome Lesnar is without giving away the satisfying, momentous climax. Fans will have to sign up for the WWE Network to see that.

Next Monday, the company should be just as creative as it was in Chicago. It should find a way to let Lesnar go on a rampage without having him actually get his hands on Rollins at all. And if it all possible, WWE should keep Lesnar from fully feasting on his foe at Battleground.

Allow Rollins to outsmart Lesnar, to somehow evade him and take just a fraction of the beating that's coming to him, and suddenly their rematch at SummerSlam is an even bigger, more anticipated bout. In this situation, holding off on delivering what the crowd wants from its gladiators is smart business.

Extend the wick to better the explosion.
