Leandro Barbosa Re-Signs with Warriors: Contract Details, Analysis, Reaction
Leandro Barbosa emerged as a solid contributor for the Golden State Warriors as they captured their fourth NBA title in franchise history. After a productive campaign, the Warriors are opting to bring the 32-year-old back.
According to ESPN.com's Ramona Shelburne, the two parties agreed to terms on a one-year deal worth $2.5 million.
Bobby Marks, the Brooklyn Nets' former assistant general manager, added a little background regarding the financial particulars of the proposed contract:
Barbosa spelled Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson off the bench with Golden State. In 14.9 minutes a night, he averaged 7.1 points and 1.5 assists a night. His three-point shooting (0.7 made threes a game) also helped spread the floor.
One of the Warriors' greatest assets last year was their strength in depth. That depth was readily apparent as Golden State wore down the Cleveland Cavaliers in the NBA Finals. Being able to bring a veteran like Barbosa off the bench for limited minutes is a nice luxury to have.
When head coach Steve Kerr wants to give Curry, Thompson or Shaun Livingston a break, he can trust Barbosa will keep the Warriors' high-powered offense chugging along.
