Brock Lesnar on Beast in the East Built Excitement for WWE Battleground 2015
Brock Lesnar is arguably the biggest star in the wrestling industry, and his presence on Saturday’s Beast in the East special on the WWE Network has helped build genuine interest in the Battleground pay-per-view later this month.
The WWE can survive as a company without Lesnar, but there is no doubt he is one of the biggest assets on the roster. He proved during his run with the UFC that he can draw over a million PPV buys, and he has been one of the keys to the early success of the WWE Network.
With the wrestling world buzzing about Lesnar at the Beast in the East event, it is clear that he has the ability to make any event feel special for the casual wrestling fans. Hardcore members of the WWE Universe would have been watching the show from Japan anyway, but for everyone else, the allure of having a bona fide star on the card was a once-in-a-lifetime moment and can’t-miss programming.
One aspect of wrestling that is missing with Lesnar due to his limited schedule is a lack of warm-up matches before PPVs, but that is essentially what the bout against Kofi Kingston was Saturday morning. By dominating Kingston and then throwing around The New Day like pieces of meat, Lesnar looks like a monster who showed little long-term effect from the beating at the hands of The Authority.
By seeing Lesnar in action and the sheer destruction he can dish out, wrestling fans can’t help but be excited for the No. 1 contender’s match against Seth Rollins for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at Battleground. Whether it was his battles against John Cena, The Undertaker, Roman Reigns or anyone else brazen enough to step into the ring with him, Lesnar has absolutely destroyed each Superstar who has challenged him, and The New Day suffered the same fate.
The WWE Universe wants to see what Lesnar can do to the spoiled Rollins now more than ever.
Not only did Lesnar’s presence at Beast in the East add legitimate excitement to the world title main event at Battleground, but it also added intrigue to many of the other matches and possible matchups for the July PPV card. From Kevin Owens to Neville to Dolph Ziggler and Cena, everyone who participated in the show from Japan benefited from having the former WWE and UFC champion on the card.
For the first time ever, Battleground is an important show. Lesnar's presence alone made the Saturday morning event must-see programming, but the Beast in the East show has acted as a pep rally for July’s event.
Lesnar can make even the least important PPV special, and he will prove it again at Battleground 2015.
