WWE SmackDown Results: Biggest Winners, Losers and Moments from July 2

Erik BeastonJul 3, 2015

After weeks spent delivering cryptic promos directed at Roman Reigns, Bray Wyatt finally emerged from the shadows Monday night, attacking the second-generation Superstar and setting him up for a beating at the hands of The Authority.

On Thursday night, he again stepped out of the darkness to battle Dean Ambrose and in the process earned himself "Biggest Winner from SmackDown" status.

In his first televised match in weeks, Wyatt cleanly pinned The Lunatic Fringe. It was a decisive victory that earned him a ton of momentum heading into Battleground pay-per-view on July 19.

The win signaled that WWE Creative is very serious about this latest Wyatt push—at least for now. The promo he cut later in the show echoed the sentiments about Reigns that we have heard for weeks but was slightly less over-the-top and more focused.

Should the writing staff ever be able to channel a night full of solid booking for the character into a sustained push full of quality development, Wyatt may be able to recover from this past year of nonsense.

While it remains to be seen just how WWE Creative will follow up Thursday's performance, Wyatt enjoyed a tremendous evening that can be built upon in the days and weeks that follow.

Who else joined The New Face of Fear as a winner coming out of this week's broadcast? And who stood on the opposite side of the fence, in need of momentum ahead of the upcoming pay-per-view event?

Loser: Dean Ambrose

The Lunatic Fringe remains part of the main event scene, regularly finding himself at odds with the unified Authority, but he does so despite having nothing to do.

He is not scheduled for a match at Battleground to this point, his rivalry with Seth Rollins has been put on the backburner as Brock Lesnar returns and he has lost clean matches to both Kane and Bray Wyatt, as seen on Thursday night.

That is hardly the way one goes about protecting someone valued as a marquee act.

At a time when WWE is struggling to create legitimate stars to stand aside John Cena as franchise players, one would assume that the company would be much more careful about protecting someone as beloved as Ambrose.

The Lunatic Fringe recovered nicely by the show's end, chasing off Seth Rollins and brutalizing Joey Mercury with a Kendo stick. At some point though, wins and losses have to be taken into consideration. More importantly, WWE Creative cannot keeping heating up, then cooling off Ambrose, because the time will eventually come when creating heat will be more and more difficult.

Ambrose is arguably the most popular star in pro wrestling. Protecting him should be of the utmost importance. Unfortunately, that was not the case for the unhinged Superstar on Thursday night.

Winner: Summer Rae

The former ballroom dancing partner of Fandango has been conspicuous by her absence on WWE programming of late, but after reappearing recently by the side of Rusev in his war with Lana and Dolph Ziggler, she had a moment during Thursday's broadcast of SmackDown that proved the pairing with The Bulgarian Brute is working far better than anyone could have imagined.

As Summer took the mic and addressed the fans in Hershey, Pennsylvania, she was met with a chorus of boos. Not just boos the likes of which any generic bad guy gets when he enters the arena, but serious "We don't like you" jeers.

Having been in attendance at the tapings, this writer can vouch for how passionate the booing was on the part of the fans. They hate Summer Rae, they hate Rusev and they want to see both get their comeuppance.

That is the type of heat most heels would love to get.

Just two weeks into her latest role, Summer Rae has been fantastic, and the fans are paying her back with the impassioned jeers she and management so desperately wanted.

Loser: Adam Rose

When WWE and ESPN presented their joint E:60 special about the Superstars of NXT, no one left a greater impression on the audience than Adam Rose. From his struggles adjusting from one character to another to his personal life and the illness his son fights on a daily basis, Rose was compelling and easy to sympathize with.

So much so that some fans suggested that he turn babyface, be given a more natural gimmick and be allowed to reap the rewards.

Instead, WWE has stubbornly stuck with the party gimmick, eliminating the Rosebuds and pairing him with lovebird Rosa Mendes.

This, despite fans' knowledge of his wife and child.

It is absolutely counterproductive, as is having him consistently job to the likes of R-Truth.

No one looks like they are having less fun on WWE TV at this point than Adam Rose, which is a tragedy.
