Davis will now play for his third team in as many seasons and fourth since being drafted 13th overall by Toronto in 2010. The 26-year-old big man spent the 2014-15 campaign with the Los Angeles Lakers, averaging 8.3 points, 7.6 rebounds and 1.2 blocks in 23.3 minutes.
HoopsHabit.com's Shane Young weighed in on what type of role Davis should expect with his new squad:
Although his free-throw percentage has declined over the past two years, Davis did make 60.1 percent of his shots from the field this last season. That type of proficiency in the paint will be key for Portland's frontcourt, especially if it loses All-Star LaMarcus Aldridge in free agency.
Aldridge averaged 23.4 points and 10.2 boards and was a huge reason why Portland was the second-best rebounding team in the Association. Davis figures to help in that regard too, per NBA.com's John Schuhmann:
The Trail Blazers' front line is in flux, as Kevin Pelton of NBA Insider referenced in his analysis:
Much of Davis' playing time will depend on Aldridge's future. Based on how much Portland paid Davis, Aldridge may indeed be on the way out. Robin Lopez is also a free agent, so another high former first-round pick in Meyers Leonard will be tasked to step up if Lopez leaves.
Davis did opt out of the final year of his Lakers deal, but if L.A. doesn't land a marquee free agent, it might regret letting Davis get away without any compensation to a superior team in the West.
