WWE NXT Results: Biggest Winners, Losers and Moments from July 1

Erik BeastonJul 2, 2015

With just three days before the biggest match of his career, Finn Balor teamed with Samoa Joe to battle NXT champion Kevin Owens and Rhyno.

And by the end of the night, he became the first person to pin Owens inside an NXT ring.

The Demon not only enjoyed a major in-ring victory but was also the subject of part three of a major documentary meant to further familiarize the audience with the man expected to carry the brand into the future.

Balor has clearly been positioned as the new face of NXT over the last month, and his pinfall win over Owens only further solidifies his status in that position, making him the undisputed biggest winner of the July 1 episode.

Who joined him on the winning side of things, and which unfortunate Superstars were not so lucky, ultimately winding up as the losers of the night?

Let's take a look.

Winner: Emma

Emma has been among the best women's wrestlers in all of WWE for a long time now, but she has been terribly misused. While incredibly popular in NXT, her character never really translated well to the main roster. Rather than toying with her gimmick and making it work, WWE Creative let her fall into obscurity.

She disappeared from television, her talents wasted on live events and D-level shows like Superstars.

Since turning heel and arriving back in NXT, she has once again received the airtime and opportunity someone of her talent deserves. A big win over Carmella and a backstage confrontation with Sasha Banks suggest the Aussie Diva may even be in store for a women's title match in the near future.

Like Tyson Kidd before her, Emma looks poised to turn what could be considered a demotion into a major chance to reestablish herself in the eyes of management.

Losers: Tyler Breeze and Baron Corbin

Both Breeze and Corbin have been stuck in a holding pattern for roughly the last two months, given nothing productive to do but kept on television all at the same time.

Corbin is back to squashing no-name enhancement talent, while Breeze has been working a babyface style against undercard stars such as Bull Dempsey and Tye Dillinger. It is confusing use of both men, especially when common sense would seem to suggest that they could work together in what could be a mutually beneficial program.

Instead, they figure to drift aimlessly throughout the show, lost in the shuffle.

Winners: The Vaudevillains

Speaking of lost in the shuffle...

There was a period of time when Aiden English and Simon Gotch were very much in that position. Lately, though, the duo has rebounded, earning themselves recognition as one of the top contenders to the NXT Tag Team Championships, currently held by Buddy Murphy and Wesley Blake.

Not only did they score a big victory over Scott Dawson and Dash Wilder, but they were awarded a match with Enzo Amore and Colin Cassady on next week's show. The winner of that bout will be next in line to challenge for the tag team gold.

Add to that the fact that the team is once again being positioned as a couple of babyfaces, and you have a recipe for a night of great success for English and Gotch.
