Dolph Ziggler Flourishing in More Prominent Role on WWE TV

Aaron BowerOct 28, 2014

WWE fans are usually united in their adulation and passion for Dolph Ziggler, that much we do know.

However, for the last year or so, WWE haven't exactly felt the same. Since dropping the World Heavyweight Championship—and then being quickly shuffled down the card—the curious handling of Ziggler's career has been a real issue for many wrestling fans.

Recently, though, the tide seems to be turning for The Show Off, who is currently enjoying a strong run as Intercontinental Champion. Having him drop the title to The Miz and then win it back a night later seemed strange, but ultimately WWE have shown faith in Ziggler over the last few weeks.

And how right they have been to show faith—because with the added TV time he has been getting, Ziggler certainly isn't letting anyone down. A born performer and one of the most talented workers on the roster, Ziggler is thrilling fans with each and every match he competes in.

It was smart from WWE's Creative team to pair him up with Cesaro, because together the two have proven to have fantastic chemistry. With a guy as physical as Cesaro as an opponent, Ziggler's brilliant ability to sell like nobody else in the WWE creates magic inside the ring—and the fans love it.

A 2-out-of-3 Falls match at Hell in a Cell had people expecting a potential match of the evening—and whilst it didn't top Dean Ambrose vs. Seth Rollins, it was still an incredible tussle between two of the company's most talented stars.

There aren't many matches of this type that see someone record a clean sweep, but in winning 2-0 Ziggler again sent a firm message that he is very much on the up.

And most WWE fans would have been satisfied to see him go back around again with Cesaro, such was the excitement and brilliance of their match at Hell in a Cell. However, WWE have upped the ante with Ziggler once again on the Raw after HIAC—by directly throwing him into a main event storyline.

There wasn't really much to think about when we saw a cutaway of John Cena talking backstage to Ziggler—clearly, Cena was intent on recruiting Ziggler for his team at Survivor Series, but probably not in a meaningful role.

But after being thrown into a match against Kane—and beating him clean—he appears to have made genuine enemies out of The Authority.

And when that happens, it almost guarantees that the sky is the limit. Clearly Cena needed a major ally in his battle against numerous members of The Authority, and the fact WWE have chosen Ziggler to be the guy is greatly encouraging for his army of fans.

It will be interesting to see how this pans out heading towards Survivor Series—hopefully Ziggler can remain firmly at the front of the battle against The Authority. It would be a crying shame if he was demoted to a bit-part player all over again.

With a real absence of top babyfaces in the company due to injury, there is a window of opportunity waiting to be seized for someone in the middle of the card. WWE have tossed Ziggler a bone here—and so far, he's more than delivering on his part.
