WWE Hell in a Cell 2014: Biggest Unanswered Questions Going into Event

Alfred KonuwaOct 26, 2014

No good pay-per-view is without its share of burning questions heading into the event. And while Hell in a Cell boasts a lineup filled with retread matches, with no WWE World Heavyweight Championship on the line, much of the hype has been driven by questions.

Who will go on last? Will Rusev finally lose? Which WWE Superstars will turn face and heel? These are just a few of the handful of questions that should be paid off in grand fashion at Sunday's pay-per-view.

Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose are expected to put forth a dramatic conclusion inside Hell in a Cell, but questions remain whether this will be their final encounter.

Despite seeming like a rerun of prior pay-per-view events, WWE Hell in a Cell presents several intriguing scenarios that give way to compelling inquiries.

Will Bray Wyatt And/or the Wyatt Family Return at Hell in a Cell?

1 of 5

For weeks, WWE has aired dark vignettes focusing on each individual member of the Wyatt Family.

The vignettes make it seem as if the group will be going its separate ways, but there has been no timetable as to when they will be resurfacing on WWE programming. The only hint of a return fans have received during the ambiguous vignettes is "it's coming."

Hell in a Cell seems like a fitting pay-per-view for the return of the Wyatts, given their creepy voodoo gimmick.

With multiple feuds in need of either a conclusion or new direction, the surprise involvement of a Wyatt would be a welcome addition to a thin WWE roster.

Will Mark Henry Turn Heel?

2 of 5

Mark Henry and Big Show have been a united front for months. A partnership that began with tag team championship aspirations has now developed into a feud against surging monster heel Rusev.

Show's previous match against Rusev on Raw ended when Henry became involved, forcing a disqualification. This was a precursor to what should eventually become a bitter feud between the current brothers from other mothers.

A recent SmackDown segment focused on Henry's potential involvement in Show's quest to defeat Rusev, with Show asking his friend to let him try to beat Rusev himself.

The current love fest, combined with Big Show attempting to do what Henry couldn't in multiple attempts, will almost certainly lead to Henry turning on Big Show at Hell in a Cell.

Will Randy Orton Turn Babyface?

3 of 5

Randy Orton's path to becoming a babyface seems to have already been mapped out.

Seth Rollins betrayed his Authority colleague at the conclusion of Raw, Curb Stomping him in the show's final scenes. Orton's match against long-time rival John Cena may be his final match as a heel before he sets his sights on Rollins.

Win or lose, Orton is in a good position, as his character is finally undergoing a much-needed overhaul. Orton has already been wearing uncharacteristically bright-colored t-shirts, possibly foreshadowing a future run as a babyface.

Potential feuds with heels such as Rollins or the returning Wyatt Family would make Orton interesting again. Orton's ongoing character development is one of the few aspects capable of making yet another match against Cena interesting.

Who's the More Intriguing No. 1 Contender: Randy Orton or John Cena?

4 of 5

The John Cena and Randy Orton bout will decide the next No. 1 contender for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.

Both seem to have upside as a future opponent for Brock Lesnar. For Cena, he'd be able to close a chapter in bitter rivalry that has been left unresolved. For Orton, fans would be able to witness a feud between Orton and Lesnar, which never occurred with both stars in their primes.

WWE can't go wrong with either choice, but who's the more intriguing option?

If Lesnar truly won't be back on WWE television until the Royal Rumble, as has been reported by Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, perhaps this is a spot better suited for Cena, as WWE can load up one of its biggest shows with what has been a proven money-drawing feud.

If there was a possibility that Lesnar could be back for next month's Survivor Series pay-per-view, Orton would be the surefire options, given the event takes place in his hometown, St. Louis. This has the potential to create one of the hottest venues in recent Survivor Series history, with fans ready to back the newly minted underdog babyface Orton.

Which Hell in a Cell Match Should Close the Show?

5 of 5

With the internet wrestling community always looking for its next source of outrage, fans are ready to riot if Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins aren't given true main event treatment:

It's like Dean said: if Ambrose & Rollins don't main event #WWEHIAC, they're making a mistake & they're going to regret it.

— Marisa Garcia (@mngarcia1993) October 26, 2014

Oi @WWE, Ambrose vs Rollins should be the MAIN main event on Sunday!! Make it happen!! #WWE #Raw

— Justine Cager (@JustineyLou) October 21, 2014

If Dean Ambrose vs. Seth Rollins doesn't go on last in main event at #HIAC we will quit watching #WWE. Then tune into #Raw the next night.

— Scott Fishman (@smFISHMAN) October 21, 2014

WWE has remained coy as to which match will go on last, with Orton even declaring his match against Cena as the true main event.

Given the length and progression of the feud between Rollins and Ambrose, one would think it has done more than enough to make its case as the legitimate main event. Still, Cena and Orton are the bigger stars, despite having a long history that doesn't necessarily necessitate another Hell in a Cell match between the two.

As long as each match is of a high quality, which is a very likely given the participants, fans should be less concerned of where the matches are slotted.

Expect Rollins and Ambrose to go on last, but it sure will be fun on Twitter if they don't.
