All Roads Lead to a Randy Orton Face Turn at Hell in a Cell

Aaron BowerOct 22, 2014

The go-home edition of Raw—that is, the final taping of WWE's flagship show before a pay-per-view—leading up to Hell in a Cell left plenty up in the air heading into a show that will be without the company's major champion.

While Seth Rollins vs. Dean Ambrose has been building up nicely over the last few weeks, WWE has also started to gradually introduce a subplot into the mix. Tensions among The Authority—Seth Rollins and Randy Orton in particular—have been teased for a good few weeks now, and they finally came to a head on Raw.

The moment Rollins stomped Orton's head into the floor brought to an end an intriguing three hours between the two men in which Orton too got the upper hand on Rollins.

The week before, the two men had watched on as they each competed in singles action, and it left WWE fans wondering just what was going to happen next.

Well, what should happen next is what many believe looks likely—a Randy Orton face turn. There are those who feel this is too soon, and that a face turn here leaves the WWE seriously devoid of a top heel. And while Orton would leave a big hole to fill, the man whom he could arguably turn on is more than capable of stepping into those shoes.

If WWE is serious about Seth Rollins as a main-event man, he should be entrusted to walk into Orton's shoes should the turn occur at Hell in a Cell.

It is set up perfectly for the turn to happen, and in all fairness, Orton is almost at the end of the line during this current heel run. He's been a credible champion, and was a fantastic spearhead during the early days of The Authority's feud with Daniel Bryan. But without Bryan on the scene, Orton has almost lost his place—and has been tossed back into pointless feuds with John Cena.

And after all, even if he did turn on Rollins—which would mean turning on The Authority—it could reopen the door for one of the greatest rivalries in the last 10 years to kick off once again. Randy Orton and Triple H have been around the block with each other plenty of times, not least that epic feud of 2009.

Although Orton was the heel in that particular instance, some of the actions of both men throughout that feud showed that they have incredibly healthy chemistry. The rivalry has been a success before with Orton as the face and Triple H as the heel—and that may be on the minds of WWE Creative when pondering a turn.

Having Orton cost Rollins the win at Hell in a Cell—after beating Cena, which would be best for business—would be a great way for the turn to happen, as it would open up plenty of different avenues for WWE to adventure down with Orton.

And essentially, that is the main reason why it's time for Randy Orton to turn again. His options as a worthwhile heel are pretty much nonexistent, whereas as a babyface, the world is his oyster.

And if that means a potential match with Brock Lesnar down the line, too, then Orton could once again find his relevance among the upper echelon of WWE.
