Most Likely Backlash Heel/Face Turns 🎭
The show began with The Usos and Gold and Stardust in the ring with JBL for a game show where each person had to guess how their brother would answer a question. It was basically The Newlywed Game for brothers.
There were some pretty funny moments, but the crowd was as dead as a door nail. JBL was great as the host, but even his numerous references to names from the past and corny jokes couldn't get anyone to care.
The Usos won the game and then sent Gold and Stardust packing with a couple of superkicks. While there were some laughs to be had, this was one of the worst ways to use the first segment of a show in the history of Main Event.
This would have been great as an episode of The JBL (Not Cole) Show, but it was a giant bomb as a live segment. Even Michael Cole was saying he wished it would end several times throughout the game.
Grade: C-
Notes and Highlights
- A good Barry Horowitz reference goes a long way.
- A lot of people probably hated this, which was obvious from the crowd response, but I actually cracked up several times. Both sets of brothers and JBL were hilarious.
- How did the crowd not pop for The Usos and JBL dancing to Rikishi's music? It was the best moment of the whole segment.
Twitter Reaction
Tyson Kidd vs. R-Truth
What happens when you take two of the most underutilized wrestlers on the roster and put them in a match together? You get a good show.
It wasn't a match-of-the-year candidate by any means, but the action was paced well and there was a story told, which is the way every match should be.
Truth got in some good offense, but Kidd was able to pick up the victory with a new finisher that we'll call a fisherman's neckbreaker until there is an official name for the move.
Winner: Tyson Kidd
Grade: B
Notes and Highlights
- Truth hitting on Natalya during the match was kind of funny.
- These two Superstars would make a good tag team, whether it be as heels or babyfaces. Frankly, Truth just needs something better to do than jobbing to a jealous husband.
Twitter Reaction
Big E vs. Bo Dallas
Big E was able to pick up a win over Bo Dallas with The Big Ending. It really seemed like Dallas would get another win over a powerhouse, but the right man won the match.
Big E has been booked so far below his potential for so long, but seeing him get a win over someone who was actually being pushed gives hope for his future.
The match itself was relatively good, but there was nothing that special about it. Big E's athleticism is always awe-inspiring, but he needs to be in longer matches for people to see what he is really capable of.
Winner: Big E
Grade: C+
Notes and Highlights
- If Bo Jackson doesn't own the rights to the phrase "Bo knows" WWE should really be using it for Bo Dallas. It would help sell Dallas' merchandise and it would give people who grew up watching the two-sport athlete a reason to like Dallas.
- The way Big E countered the Running Bo-Dog into his own finisher was kind of cool.
- Since WWE did not upload this match to YouTube, you will get to watch the latest episode of The JBL (Not Cole) Show featuring the return of Z! True Long Island Story.

Seth Rollins vs. Jack Swagger
The main event of Main Event saw Seth Rollins score a win over Jack Swagger. These are two incredible athletes, so it should come as no surprise that they stole the show.
Swagger had some great counters throughout the match, but his wrestling ability wasn't enough to overcome Rollins' agility and heel tactics.
Joey Mercury and Jamie Noble cornered Zeb Colter at ringside, causing Swagger to break his concentration long enough for Rollins to take advantage and hit the Curb Stomp for the pin.
Winner: Seth Rollins
Grade: B+
Notes and Highlights
- Colter's role has become pointless. He can't help Swagger if he isn't allowed to deliver his trademark promos.
- After the positive reaction from fans, Noble and Mercury have been turned into Seth Rollins' own personal security team. Aren't security guards supposed to be bigger than the guy they are protecting?
- The Curb Stomp is a good finisher, but it doesn't always look great. Rollins should use his springboard knee to the head instead.
