WWE Raw Results: Biggest Winners, Losers and Moments from October 20

Erik BeastonOct 21, 2014

Just days away from stepping inside Hell in a Cell, Dean Ambrose, John Cena, Seth Rollins and Randy Orton took center stage on Monday's episode of Raw, starring in a number of in-ring interviews and backstage vignettes and competing in a huge 3-on-2 Handicap Street Fight.

After a week in which Orton became an Internet celebrity thanks to his RKO memes and Vines, he scored a huge victory for his team via his trademark finisher on the red-hot Ambrose.

Unfortunately for The Viper, partner Rollins betrayed him after the bout and delivered a Curb Stomp that threatens to irreparably fracture the relationship within The Authority. How will Mr. Money in the Bank's actions affect the events of this weekend's pay-per-view extravaganza? One thing is for certain: The Viper will not allow the actions of his cohort to go unpunished.

Who else emerged from Monday's broadcast either riding a wave of momentum into Hell in a Cell or scurrying to get back on track ahead of the huge WWE Network broadcast?

Let's take a look.

Winner: Damien Mizdow

There has been no Superstar more fun to watch over the last month than Damien Mizdow, who has completely invested himself in the stunt double gimmick he currently portrays and thus has thrived as a performer both in and around the squared circle.

His antics are over the top but absolutely outstanding. They capture the attention of the fans and have single-handedly made an otherwise lethargic program between United States champion Sheamus and The Miz entertaining.

After months spent staring at the lights and putting other Superstars over, Mizdow defeated Sheamus and picked up his biggest victory of 2014. The win took Twitter by storm as it became abundantly clear that the outstanding performer has struck a chord with the WWE Universe in his current role.

If that sort of support and recognition, not to mention a big victory over the current U.S. champion, does not make the former Mr. Money in the Bank the ultimate winner from Monday's Raw, what does?

Loser: Dolph Ziggler

Can the WWE Intercontinental champion win a television match? Apparently, the answer is no. Monday night, he dropped his fourth straight televised bout, this time to Cesaro, who has set himself up to be the top contender to the Showoff's title in the coming weeks.

Making matters worse was the fact that the Swiss Superman tossed Ziggler around like a rag doll and even delivered the Neutralizer after the match, just to hammer home the point that Ziggler was inferior.

Why booking has shifted back to treating the current IC champion like a glorified jobber is a mystery. For a while, it appeared as though Ziggler had been gaining momentum, that he was seizing his latest opportunity and that management was finally treating him like the star he should be. Recent losses to Rusev, Randy Orton and Seth Rollins, however, have sent him crashing back down the ladder.

Winner: Randy Orton

The Viper benefited from his best booking in months Monday night, flattening both John Cena and Paul Heyman with RKOs in an attempt to capitalize on all of the Internet buzz surrounding the maneuver. He also pinned Dean Ambrose in what proved to be a wildly entertaining Handicap Street Fight to close out the night's broadcast.

But his most interesting contribution to Monday's show was as the recipient of partner Seth Rollins' dreaded Curb Stomp finisher. Automatically, Orton becomes a central figure in the events that will unfold at Hell in a Cell. Not only will he meet Cena in one of the marquee bouts, but he also figures to be involved in Rollins' match with Ambrose.

After all, there's no way The Viper lets Rollins get away without a receipt.

A potential rivalry with Rollins, and a babyface turn, would freshen up a character who has fallen by the wayside in terms of importance over the last year. He is desperately in need of a shot of adrenaline, and, if Monday's show was any indication, that shot may very well be on its way.

Winner/Loser: Dean Ambrose

Monday was a show of ups and downs for the Lunatic Fringe. During his backstage segment with John Cena in which he compared himself to Batman and Cena to Superman, he came off as confident and assured. He looked every bit of Cena's equal. When he got into the ring for the promo involving the Seth Rollins dummy, however, things deteriorated rapidly.

The live crowd barely responded to anything Ambrose had to say. Even his explicit threats of violence against Rollins fell on deaf ears. Why? It was probably a mixture of the a poorly executed idea and a crowd exhausted from the three-hour format of the show. Either way, it felt very much like Ambrose had taken a step back.

Then came the main event, and as he always does in those high-pressure situations, Ambrose thrived. The match was outstanding, and he really appeared to be on a roll toward the end of the contest before eating an RKO and dropping the match for his team.

The loss will not hurt Ambrose. After all, he and Cena were at a numbers disadvantage. What will hurt is poor in-ring promo performances, the likes of which fans were exposed to Monday. The writing did not help matters, but Ambrose must be able to turn chicken crap into chicken salad.

Odds are that WWE Creative will present him with plenty of chicken crap over the course of his career. To paraphrase Mark Henry: It's what they do!

Winner: Brie Bella

While Paige and AJ Lee's storyline has been bogged down with disjointed booking and nonsensical storytelling, the Bella Twins' angle has chugged along, incorporating old-school booking and angles that both make sense and advance to the story. Of the utmost importance, however, has been Brie Bella's in-ring performance.

Don't look now, but Mrs. Daniel Bryan has been very good between the ropes, her offense more crisp and arguably better than anything Paige, AJ or anyone involved in that storyline has mustered over the last month.

In fact, given the stories, the booking and the quality of the ring work since Night of Champions, do no be surprised if the Bella Twins put together a better and more enjoyable match than what their more celebrated in-ring worker peers do come Sunday night at Hell in a Cell.
