WWE SmackDown Results: Biggest Winners, Losers and Moments from October 17
Following his victory over John Cena Monday night on Raw, which earned him the right to face Seth Rollins inside Hell in a Cell on October 26, Dean Ambrose rolled into SmackDown riding a wave of momentum. But that momentum would be met with a challenge in the form of WWE's resident demon, The Big Red Monster Kane.
With Rollins lurking, it was only a matter of time before Ambrose was forced to fight off his former Shield brother in order to survive the night to make it to Hell in a Cell in just over a week.
After weeks of being one-upped by AJ Lee, Paige was able to flatten her with the Ram-Paige and stand tall. Elsewhere in the Divas division, Nikki Bella rebounded nicely from her loss on Raw to defeat Naomi in singles competition. Will Paige and Nikki be able to turn their success from Friday night into sustained momentum as they gear up for WWE's next pay-per-view extravaganza?

Modern-Day Dream Matches 💭

Most Likely Backlash Heel/Face Turns 🎭
Sheamus and The Usos scored a big six-man tag team match win over The Miz and Gold & Stardust, while the aforementioned Rollins knocked off intercontinental champion Dolph Ziggler in non-title action.
Who emerged from this week's broadcast a winner? A loser? Find out now.
Winner: Paige
After AJ Lee fended off Paige and Alicia Fox over the last few weeks, it looked as though Paige was generic heel No. 1 to AJ's Super Cena. Thankfully, she killed that notion Friday night when she hoisted AJ up and dropped her face-first with the Ram-Paige.
Over the last month, Paige has been completely overshadowed by her nemesis, whom the company seems content on pushing as if she is the John Cena of the Divas division. Allowing her to fall by the wayside in favor of further pushing AJ, who really cannot go any further in the division than she already has, would be a huge mistake.
Thankfully, she got much-needed help from WWE Creative Friday night.
Loser: Dolph Ziggler
After capturing the WWE Intercontinental Championship, Dolph Ziggler seemed to have overcome the awful booking he was forced to endure the year prior. He was winning matches again and beating some fairly prominent midcard stars. Recently, however, he has fallen back into the same traps that plague so many other non-main event talents in today's WWE.
Last Friday night, he lost to Rusev. This past Monday, he dropped a match to Randy Orton. Friday night, he continued his cold streak with a loss to Seth Rollins.
The Orton loss did not hurt Ziggler. After all, it was Randy Orton, someone fans perceive to be one of the elite stars in the industry. But Ziggler's losses to Rollins and Rusev are inexcusable. Was Sin Cara busy? Did Justin Gabriel have something better to do? How about Adam Rose?
Sacrificing Ziggler ahead of his big title defense against Cesaro is a mistake that not only is detrimental to Ziggler but to the importance of the impending championship match.
Loser: Goldust
To say that Goldust's week has been an underwhelming one would be a major understatement. Monday night, he was pinned by John Cena. Friday night, he ate a Brogue Kick from Sheamus and lost the six-man tag team match for his team.
Will Goldust recover? Of course. But playing punching bag to two of the top babyfaces in WWE is not the way one-half of the tag championship should spend his week.
Winner: Dean Ambrose
Having taken so many beatdowns at the hands of Seth Rollins and Kane over the last few months, it was about time Dean Ambrose avoided one and sent his Authority rivals packing to end the show. That is exactly what he did Friday night.
He blasted Kane with a steel chair, then stared down Rollins to close out the show.
In WWE, babyfaces get over based on their ability to overcome the odds, even if that story is played out and beyond stale at this point. For Ambrose to really make his mark with the general audience, he will need more booking like he got Friday night. Expect him to get it going forward as WWE attempts to make him the anti-authority rebel of the PG Era.
